The atmosphere at ecosail Karlsruhe has shifted from steady progress to a high-stakes sprint. With the spring breeze officially here, April marks the most critical turning point in our journey toward SuMoth 2026.

The start of the new semester has brought a massive wave of fresh energy to the workshop, as we have handed over the torch of all sub-teams to a group of new and inspired team members. It’s incredible to see the influx of talent and passion as new members integrate into our engineering, logistics, and media departments. Seeing the workshop buzzing is exactly the momentum we need for the stretch goal ahead.

The pressure is officially on as we enter the final stages of the project. We have just seven weeks left until the challenge, leaving no room for "next month" plans—the time to finish is now. From perfecting the manufacturing of Hull 2.0 to finalizing the daunting and highly technical S1 Report, every hour in the workshop brings us closer to sailing at SuMoth this summer. The finish line is in sight, and we’re giving it everything we’ve got to be ready for the big stage!

This past month at ecosail Karlsruhe has been a month of turning our learned lessons into well-deserved results. After the challenges of February, the workshop is back in action!

Hull 2.0 is officially underway, and the results are night and day compared to our first attempt! With the technical hurdles of last month taken into account, we refined our infusion strategy and vacuum integrity. The basalt layers are laying down beautifully, and the workflow is significantly smoother.

While the work on the hull has left us covered in dust, work on the foils has been ongoing as well. To streamline our workflow, we've written several programs in Python, such as a Velocity Prediction Program for adequate hydrodynamics, or a program that selects minimum dimensions for given foil geometries to provide input values for the CFD analysis.
Furthermore, we've built an FEM environment to optimize the laminating process of our foils.

PR work has been taxing as well, as the production for the upcoming on the SuMoth YouTube Channel to be featured S1 VLOG is underway. We are excited for you to see what we cooked up!

February has been a month of true "engineering character" at ecosail Karlsruhe. While the journey to SuMoth 2026 is full of high-speed dreams, the reality of the workshop sometimes throws us a curveball.

Laminating a high-performance hull with sustainable materials like basalt fiber is a pioneer’s game, and pioneers often face setbacks. This month, we encountered some unexpected technical hurdles during the hull infusion process. While we are still analyzing the exact cause, we may be looking at creating an entirely new hull. But we are far from being discouraged, the team’s motivation remains unwavering. We’re treating this as a vital learning loop; refining our vacuum seals and resin flow to ensure the next hull is even lighter and stronger.

To support our production, we’ve been busy on the hardware side as well. We are currently working on our dedicated workshop trolley. This custom-built rig will allow us to keep our workspace organized as we scale up our operations.

While the workshop team is busy with basalt and epoxy, Team Public Relations is on the case. The development of a fully-fledged corporate design is currently underway. From a refined visual identity to a cohesive aesthetic that matches our sustainable mission, ecosail will be looking sharper than ever. This design will be the backbone of a new marketing effort to catch the eye of potential new members and sponsors next semester. We can’t wait to show you how we’re planning to bring even more talent into the ecosail fold.

Finally, a quick reality check: the workshop lights might be a bit dimmer over the next few weeks. We are officially entering the exam phase. As much as we love boat building, it’s time to hit the library and conquer our university finals. We’ll be back at full capacity before the first spring breeze hits!

Vielen Dank an die Sparte Dienstleistungen von Netze BW zum Verleih einer SIM-Karte!

Für den Bau unserer neuen Motte für den SuMoth 2026 Wettkampf integrieren wir Elektronik, mittels welcher diverse Telemetriedaten geteilt werden. Diese SIM-Karte ermöglicht es uns, diese Daten an unseren Jungs an Land zu schicken ⛵🛜

Many thanks to the services division from Netze BW for lending us a SIM card!

For the construction of our new moth for the SuMoth 2026 competition, we integrate electronics, by means of which various telemetry data is shared. This SIM card allows us to send this data to our guys on the ground ⛵🛜

Am 27.11.2025 durften wir Herrn Karl Linder im Rahmen unseres Projekts ecosail Karlsruhe an der Hochschule Karlsruhe begrüßen. Wir bedanken uns herzlich für seinen Besuch sowie für die langjährige Unterstützung durch ihn und die Karl Linder Education Foundation.

Seit der Gründung von ecosail Karlsruhe im Jahr 2017 begleitet Herr Linder unser Projekt als wichtiger Förderer. Seine Unterstützung ermöglicht es uns, neue Ideen umzusetzen, innovative Konzepte weiterzuentwickeln und unser Projekt stetig voranzubringen. Wir sind sehr dankbar für das entgegengebrachte Vertrauen und die kontinuierliche Unterstützung, die uns motivieren, mit großem Engagement weiterzuarbeiten.
