Myth vs. Fact: “Deworming Is Always Necessary”

Myth: All pets need deworming every month.

Fact: In Europe, only ~15% of dogs and ~25% of cats carry roundworms, many are treated unnecessarily. Regular f***l tests help avoid overmedication and resistance to deworming when it’s needed.

Takeaway: Ask your vet about testing first. It’s the smarter, healthier choice.

We recently had the pleasure of meeting with our commercial partners from across the APeC region for three days filled with knowledge exchange, learning, and plenty of great moments (including a master chef class!) together.

With participants joining from 9 different countries, it was a fantastic opportunity to strengthen our connections, share insights, and align on our common goals.

A big thank you to Abacus Dx. Limited New Zealand, Basic Science South Korea, ChromoXpert India, Minh Viet Science Technology, DKSH Singapore, GeneWorks Australia, Griffin Biotech Limited Hong Kong, iScience Technology Thailand, Kokusai Kinzoku Yakuhin Japan, and the INDICAL team Alison, Dunstan, Birght and Norhan, who were on site to make the event a real success.

Looking forward to continuing our collaboration and to next meeting again! 🚀

At INDICAL, employee well-being is more than a benefit, it’s part of our culture 💜

This week, together with Techniker Krankenkasse (TK), we successfully launched our INDICAL Health Days 2026 with the first session: Head & Shoulder Analysis, delivered by GFA Haltungskonzepte.

The session focused on posture, mobility, and relieving neck & shoulder tension, offering practical guidance and personalized insights to support healthier everyday work routines.

We're excited to see such strong engagement already, with 20 onsite participants and 4 online participants joining the first session and sharing positive feedback.

And we’re just getting started, two more Health Days sessions are still coming up:

✔️ Low Back Pain Check
✔️ Fascia Check

At INDICAL, we believe creating a healthy workplace means supporting our teams both professionally and personally, whether onsite or remote 🚀

A new study about AI-Powered ovine Haemonchus contortus detection 🔎

Haemonchus contortus is one of the most pathogenic and economically important species of gastrointestinal nematodes (GINs) affecting livestock.

A recent groundbreaking research paper evaluates OvaCyte Speciation, a world first automated platform launched by OvaCyte that uses artificial intelligence to estimate the percentage of Haemonchus contortus eggs among strongyle-type eggs in sheep 🐑 faecal egg counts.

The study compares this revolutionary diagnostic tool against the traditional agglutinin (PNA) staining method, which requires specialized fluorescence microscopy and referral to specialist laboratories.

Using PNA as the reference, OvaCyte Speciation achieved 100% sensitivity (95% CI 96–100%) and 89% specificity (95% CI 65–98%) for detecting H. contortus.

✔️ The study concludes that OvaCyte Speciation is a reliable, rapid, and field‑adaptable alternative to PNA fluorescence microscopy for estimating H. contortus proportions in ovine faeces.

Important news from OvaCyte! 👇

We’ve just launched the OvaCyte Dual EQ & LA Test Kit and it’s exactly what many labs have been asking for.

No extra steps. No extra plastic. No compromise on performance.

With the new DUAL cassette, you can run two consecutive f***l tests in just 18 minutes. This means:

• Faster turnaround
• Streamlined workflows
• Significantly reducing waste (66% less plastic)

It’s a practical improvement that makes day-to-day testing more efficient and more sustainable at the same time.

We’re also pleased to share that OvaCyte Speciation (Ovine) is now available. 🐑 This allows differentiation of Strongyles (Haemonchus contortus) and Nematodirus (N. battus) in sheep, and can be run on both the EQ & LA PLUS and the new DUAL kit.

OvaCyte was the subject of a recent independently published paper from leading parasitologists at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences.

The paper directly compared the performance of OvaCyte to traditional McMaster for quantifying strongyle eggs in sheep faeces. Three experimental protocols were used in which fresh ovine faecal samples were analysed from three distinct groups of sheep.

A. Pen reared sheep experimentally infected with ISE isolates of Haemonchus contortus.
B. Uninfected sheep faeces spiked with known concentrations of Haemonchus contortus eggs
C. Faeces from sheep of different ages from Swedish farms (field study)

Key Take Aways:

✔️ The accuracy of OvaCyte was higher in experiment A compared to McMaster.
✔️ Precision was higher for the OvaCyte in both experiments A & B.
✔️ OvaCyte yielded a higher egg recovery at low concentrations in Experiments B & C indicating OvaCyte has a higher sensitivity compared to McMaster.

This study shows that the OvaCyte is a reliable and efficient alternative to manual counting.
