Two generations. One experiment. Countless discoveries. 👴👧

Last weekend, we celebrated the Double Ninth Festival in Taiwan – a tradition dedicated to honouring our elders. Our team in Taiwan brought grandparents and grandchildren from across the country side by side into the lab for our Grandparent–Grandchild Science Camp.

The best part? Watching a grandmother's eyes light up right alongside her grandchild's. 💛

Essential in swimming pools and in the chemical industry alike: chlorine. 💦🧪

The yellow-green gas is used in the production of around two thirds of all plastics – and is irreplaceable in 80% of Covestro's own products.

But its production consumes large amounts of electricity. There has to be a more efficient way. 🌱
In the second episode of the "Sustainable meets Efficient" series, we introduce the oxygen depolarized cathode. Developed together with partners, this smart solution for chlorine production feeds oxygen directly into the electrolysis process. The oxygen "consumes" the electrons, making the chemical reaction easier and allowing current to flow much more efficiently.

📉 The result: around 25% energy savings in chlorine production.
The chlorine plant in Krefeld-Uerdingen has been running on this technology since 2011. Now, the process is being used for the first time in a large-scale industrial plant of this size in Tarragona, Spain. A true milestone for a more sustainable chemical industry. ♻️🌍

Change starts with a story. And sometimes that story begins at home. 🐢
This September, colleagues in Taiwan turned a simple reading moment into something deeply personal. Colleagues were encouraged to sit down with their children and read "The Adventures of Young Guardians" – a bilingual storybook , following three young guardians who rescue a sea turtle in need.

More than a quarter of Taiwan employees signed up. Not a small number for a quiet evening at home.

But the story behind the storybook goes further. It has already reached more than 50,000 children across 150 schools – brought to life through a coalition of more than 10 organizations spanning industry, government and academia. A reminder that ocean protection doesn't start at the beach. It starts with the stories we tell.

And sometimes, the most powerful one happens between a parent and a child – turning a page together. 🧡

528 laps. 24 hours. Two Sonnenwagen crossing the finish line. 🌞🏁

What Team Sonnenwagen Aachenachieved at the 2026 European Solar Challenge in Zolder fills us with incredible pride.
Æthon in sixth. Adelie in forth – despite tumbling over during the night and having to be removed from the track. The team repaired the car and brought it back to the race. No giving up. Just getting back out there.

That's the spirit that has driven this partnership since 2017. Testing, developing, refining together – with more than ten of our materials in the current Sonnenwagen Æthon, from chemically recycled foam in the driver's seat to thermally conductive Makrolon® TC in the battery cell holders.
Next stop: the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge 2027 in Australia. 🌏
