B. Braun South Africa Advances Neurosurgical Training Through ‘Sharing Expertise’

B. Braun South Africa is proud to announce the successful completion of its inaugural Aneurysm Clipping Course, marking a significant milestone in advancing specialised neurosurgical education across the region.

The two-day programme brought together a select group of senior registrars and consultant neurosurgeons for an immersive learning experience that balanced both theory and practice. Led by esteemed facilitators Prof Christos Profyris and Dr Armin Gretschel, the course reflected B. Braun’s commitment to Sharing Expertise by fostering meaningful collaboration and peer-to-peer knowledge exchange.

Participants engaged in a comprehensive curriculum combining expert-led lectures with hands-on training. Key focus areas included cranial access techniques, a deeper understanding of aneurysm pathology, and practical approaches to managing complex aneurysm cases. The programme also addressed intraoperative challenges, equipping attendees with valuable insights and techniques to confidently manage surgical emergencies.

Looking ahead, B. Braun South Africa aims to host this course annually, further strengthening its contribution to ongoing neurosurgical education. Future programmes are expected to include lecture-based refresher sessions for surgeons already proficient in aneurysm clipping, ensuring continued professional development and sustained surgical excellence.

By providing a platform for both foundational training and ongoing learning, the course enhances technical expertise while reinforcing clinical decision-making in high-stakes environments.

A new colleague on the shopfloor?

Not yet. At the B. Braun Technology Center in Melsungen, a new form of automation is explored: humanoid, AI-powered robotics. The first humanoid robot is currently taking its first steps in a dedicated test environment.

“Humanoid robotics is not intended to replace human work. Our goal is to develop technologies that support and relieve people—particularly in physically demanding, repetitive, or safety-critical tasks,” says Bastian Stegle, Vice President B. Braun Technology Center.

One initial use case is material handling, for example supporting material and goods flows in production, such as transporting boxes between systems.
