High-speed, high-accuracy non-contact laser scanning inside the machine

The Non-Contact On-Machine Measuring System uses a laser scanner to automatically measure workpieces directly inside the machining area. Measurement can be performed immediately after machining, contributing significantly to improved productivity and process integration.
In this system, the laser scanner is automatically mounted to the spindle from the tool magazine. The probe is then automatically powered on by the spindle’s rotation, enabling a seamless transition from machining to measurement.
In conventional workpiece measurement, it was necessary to remove the workpiece from the machine and transfer it to a dedicated measuring device. In contrast, this system allows direct measurement on the machine, reducing operator workload and significantly shortening setup time.

Drilling of a hole that demands high-accuracy for inner diameter, circularity, and surface roughness requires the right choice of cutting tools; to drill a hole of Φ20 mm or bigger, a boring tool with one flute is suitable; to drill multiple holes of less than Φ20 mm, a reamer is reasonable. Usually, reamer is a finishing tool as it delivers high accuracy. At the same time, reamer is a high-efficiency tool equipped with multiple flutes and requires less machining allowance.

In the past, a sidelock holder which secures an end mill shank was the only way to prevent the tool from pulling out or slipping during heavy-duty cutting of heatproof alloys or the like. However, with the sidelock holder, the shank is fastened at one end with bolts, causing unstable run-out accuracy and tool balance, which makes it difficult for operators to increase cutting conditions.
Moreover, in the wedge-shaped or pin-type pull-out protection mechanism, tool overhang is shortened every time grinding is performed, which necessitates program changes.
