How can navigation and imaging support the treatment of complex pediatric spine cases?
For us, the answer is clear: The workflow makes the difference. 🔄
The Klinik Oberwart team (Gesundheit Burgenland) led by Daniel Staribacher, MD and Prof Prof h c Dr Dr med Günther C Feigl in Eisenstadt, Austria treated a 15-year-old patient with scoliosis requiring posterior spinal stabilization from T3 to T12.

They implemented an integrated workflow combining automatic image registration with Loop-X®* mobile imaging and the Brainlab drill guide workflow with Curve® Navigation.*
A key aspect of the case was the transition from a probe-and-awl-based approach to the recommended Brainlab Drill Guide workflow.
This was the first time this workflow combination was used in the Burgenland region of Austria. The team reported good Loop-X®* image quality and very positive feedback on the navigated drill workflow's ease of use and navigation accuracy. The patient achieved a satisfactory clinical result and was happy with the outcome.

Based on this experience, the team at Klinik Oberwart plans to incorporate the workflow into future scoliosis procedures.

This case highlights an important lesson: advanced technology delivers the greatest value when combined with the right workflow.

Die Klinik für Neurochirurgie (Department of Neurosurgery Marburg) am Universitätsklinikum Gießen und Marburg GmbH (UKGM) arbeitet ab sofort mit 2x Loop-X®*, 2x Buzz®, die OP-Integrationsplattform der nächsten Generation und 2x Curve® Navigation System.

Vor rund zehn Jahren legte das intraoperative CT AIRO® in Marburg den Grundstein für bildgestützte Neurochirurgie. Nach zehn Jahren im klinischen Einsatz übernimmt der mobile Bildgebungsroboter Loop-X®* diese Rolle.

Damit verfügen künftig beide neurochirurgischen OP-Säle in Marburg über eine vollintegrierte robotische Navigationssuite mit intraoperativer 3D-Bildgebung.

Mastering spine surgery navigation, mobile imaging and robotics takes hands-on experience.

At our recent Brainlab Academy Spine Surgery course, clinicians from around the world came together at our Munich headquarters for two days of practical training and peer exchange. Attendees worked through navigated workflows from planning to navigation, using the latest Brainlab spine robotics portfolio.

Function in focus: Why neuromonitoring is essential to our workflows.

Did you know that lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths worldwide?¹ 🫁

This is especially troubling because many cases are preventable.¹ Lung cancer is also often detected at late stages, which makes treatment options more limited.

According to the LCFA (Lung Cancer Foundation of America), the survival rate for metastasized lung cancer is only 6 out of every 100 patients. 📊

That's why it's important to spread awareness, especially on . To reduce the impact of lung cancer, we need to:

🔍 Be aware of screening programs, with the goal of catching cancer at the local stage
🧬 Further improve the treatment spectrum of lung cancer

"No procedure is too routine that it can't be done a little better."

Professor Peter Vajkoczy, MD, Neurosurgeon and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin sat down recently with our own Nils Ehrke, President EMEA at Brainlab, and both agreed that excellence is not a goal, but an attitude.

That humble mindset also shapes how we think about technology in the operating room. The goal is not just to enable the spectacular one percent of cases but to improve every case, starting with every neurosurgical step, from imaging to planning to navigation and indeed, the whole workflow itself. Small changes may seem inconsequential alone, but together, they have the power to rewrite outcomes.
