Precise location matters when security decisions happen in real time.

Our latest firmware release for Qb2 and QbProtect introduces geocoordinates for objects and zones. Object detections, tracks and events are now visualized on an integrated 2D world map, and security operators can leverage this positional data to:
- Pinpoint incidents with precise GPS data
- Coordinate PTZ camera movements for rapid response
- Gain comprehensive spatial understanding of the monitored area

The result is a new level of situational awareness, transforming pure detection into precise, location-based security intelligence.

How can last-mile deliveries in cities become more efficient and sustainable? One promising answer: automated e-cargo bikes that support delivery staff by following them contactlessly — thanks to smart sensor technology.

At the core of this system is a multi-sensor setup combining cameras with a 3D LiDAR sensor from Blickfeld. While the cameras provide object classification and depth perception, the LiDAR ensures precise, real-time 3D mapping of the bike’s surroundings — independent of lighting conditions. This allows the bike to follow the courier safely at walking speed and stop automatically when needed.

The result: fewer empty trips, smoother workflows, and less pressure on urban traffic.

The project is supported by the BMWK and developed in a strong consortium of partners, including Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg, ONOMOTION, FusionSystems, and Blickfeld.

What does smart inventory management look like in practice?

In Solingen, the city’s public works department (TBS) has taken a hands-on approach to digitalization. Together with COCUS and Blickfeld, they’ve replaced manual stock checks with a LiDAR-based system that tracks bulk material levels across 15 outdoor storage bays – automatically, accurately, and in real time.

Powered by a private 5G network and edge computing, the system provides live volume data and historical insights without the need for complex infrastructure. It’s already helping TBS streamline logistics and plan ahead more effectively.
