Cermet – exotic cutting material or real game changer?
Cermets combine ceramic components (TiC / TiCN) with a metallic binder (Ni, Co).
This material concept provides:
• high hardness
• low affinity with steel
• suppress build up edge
• excellent surface finish
• greater heat resistance

Especially under continuous cutting conditions, these properties make a clear difference.

• Material: C45 / 1.0503
• Insert: CNMG120404PP CCX
• Cutting speed (vc): 440 m/min
• Depth of cut (ap): 0.3 mm

Due to the low affinity with steel, built-up edge formation is effectively suppressed.
The result is a stable cutting edge and a consistent, shiny surface finish, even at high cutting speeds.
