We were asked what our linear stage can move. Apparently also Kägi fret.

All about automation Wels 2026. The axis was precise. The chocolate was delicious. Priorities intact.

The image shows a ROTAX direct drive stage combined with a LINAX linear motor axis — both connected to the XENAX servo controller via the standardized M16 single-cable interface.

The ROTAX Rxhq provides 360° continuous rotation, ±0.002° repeatability, and an absolute encoder resolution of 2,592,000 increments per revolution — via one M16 cable carrying power, encoder signal, and communication. The modular design reduces cost across development, commissioning, and spare parts management. Connection to leading PLC platforms is handled by the XENAX XE Busmodule with PLCopen-certified libraries, supporting EtherCAT, PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, CANopen, ETHERNET POWERLINK, and Ethernet TCP/IP.

What is a linear motor — and why does it matter for precision motion?

Traditional linear axes are built indirectly. A rotary motor drives a coupling, the coupling drives a ballscrew, the ballscrew drives the load. Each mechanical stage adds length, backlash and integration effort.

A linear motor removes the conversion entirely. The coil acts directly on a stationary magnet track. Electromagnetic force is translated into straight-line motion without intermediate transmission.

Key specifications of the LINAX® range:
• Stroke: 44 – 2000 mm
• Force: 8 N nominal up to 300 N peak (Lxs F120)
• Encoder resolution: 1 µm standard, optical option down to 100 nm
• Magnetic absolute encoder ready for Functional Safety
• Cross-roller guides with an F10 lifetime above 350 million cycles
• M16 single-cable interface for power, encoder and safety
• Clean-room versions: ISO class 3 (Lxc) and ISO class 5 (Lxu, Lxs)

Engineered and built in Switzerland since 1994.

Scanning Contours in Motion ⚡ | 3D Handling with Forceteq® & ELAX®

Precision meets sensitivity — and this demo shows exactly what that looks like in action.

Our Forceteq® Basic enables intelligent contour scanning while ELAX® linear actuators deliver smooth, force-controlled motion across complex geometries. The result? Fast response, gentle contact, and intelligent control — all in one compact Swiss-engineered system.

That's what we mean by Simplify Motion.

Force measurement without a separate evaluation unit. The Signateq® measuring amplifier connects DMS load cells directly to the XENAX® Xvi 75V8S servo controller via CAN. Compatible with standard sensors from Burster, Kistler, or Futek.

Setup: solder 4 wires to the Signateq®, enter the sensor's mV/V sensitivity from its test report into the Load Cell menu. Measurement accuracy:

Linear motor vs. toothed belt drive — where the transmission becomes the variable.

A toothed belt drive transmits motion through a positively engaged belt between drive and idler pulleys. Repeatability is influenced by belt elongation, system stiffness by belt elasticity, and length varies with temperature. Long-term stability depends on belt quality and material fatigue; maintenance is defined by retensioning and ageing.

A linear motor generates translational motion directly. Force is produced electromagnetically — without belts, screws or gear systems. No mechanically induced backlash. No lubrication in the force transmission path. No wear in the force transmission path. Positioning accuracy in the micrometer range. Industrial linear motor axes commonly achieve speeds up to 4 m/s while maintaining high positioning accuracy.

At Jenny Science, mechanical axis, motor and servo controller (INTAX® / XENAX®) are integrated into a unified architecture. Single-cable M16 for power and communication, web-based commissioning.

Note: a linear motor requires active control and energy supply to hold position at standstill — a design constraint to weigh against the gain in repeatability and dynamics.
