Breaking into New Markets 🚀

As early as 1951, Evonik's predecessor company, Th. Goldschmidt AG, began re-establishing its international presence following World War II. With its first foreign subsidiaries in India and Brazil, the Thermit process for rail welding was introduced into promising growth markets. 🚊

In Kanpur, India Thermit Corporation Ltd. was established as a subsidiary of Elektro Thermit GmbH. In Rio de Janeiro, Thebra do Brasil followed, taking over the distribution of the Thermit welding process in Brazil.

In the years that followed, Degussa, Hüls, and Röhm & Haas also expanded their activities in South America and India.

These early steps demonstrate how Evonik's predecessor companies laid the foundation for the company's global presence as early as the 1950s. 🌏

20 years. Zero lost-time accidents. One strong safety culture.

Our Polyester (PY) team at the Multi-User-Site China (MUSC) in Shanghai, China has been recognized with the Evonik Sapphire Safety Award after achieving an extraordinary milestone: 20 years without a lost-time accident.

Achievements like this don't happen by chance. They are built day by day through personal responsibility, open conversations, looking out for one another, and the willingness to speak up when something doesn't seem right.
From safety starter meetings before shifts to reporting near misses and continuous improvement initiatives, safety is embedded in the team's daily work and mindset.

Recognition for Outstanding Research Achievements 🏆

With the renewed presentation of the Karl-Theo Goldschmidt Research Award, innovative research was honored once again for the first time since 1945. 🔬 The award, endowed with 5,000 Deutsche Marks (DM), was presented to Dr. Walter Bungardt of Th. Goldschmidt AG, a predecessor of Evonik, in recognition of his work on pyrophoric metals.

Together with his team, he developed a process for manufacturing lighter flints through fully continuous extrusion. The flints produced using this method achieved worldwide success under the brand name Tego.

The award commemorates Karl-Theo Goldschmidt, the son of Theo Goldschmidt who lost his life during the war, and was originally established in 1943. It highlights a long-standing tradition of recognizing scientific innovation and outstanding research achievements.

Investing in the future: Apprenticeship and dual study program start 2026 at Evonik

For the 2026 apprenticeship year, we welcomed around 370 new apprentices and dual students to our sites across Germany. They started their careers in 16 apprenticeship occupations and 8 dual study programmes, making an important contribution to the future success of our company.

Apprentices account for 6.7% of Evonik's workforce, placing the company well above the industry average and among Germany's largest training providers.

We look forward to supporting our new talents in their professional and personal development and wish them a successful start at Evonik.
