✨ Another unforgettable EMINENT Summer School has come to an end!
Over four inspiring days, students from the second EMINENT cohort came together at the INCYTE Research Centre of the University of Siegen to collaborate, learn, and share ideas. From interactive Professional Design Experience Projects (PEPs) to expert talks by researchers and industry professionals, the week was filled with innovation, teamwork, and new perspectives.

🔬 This year’s highlights included:
• Student presentations of collaborative PEP projects
• Inspiring talks on biotechnology and healthcare technologies by the guests from IPG Photonics, Biosurfit, Plux Biosignals and StabVida
• Networking with researchers from our partner universities
• Career insights from the University of Siegen’s Career Service
• A consortium meeting bringing together representatives of the EMINENT partner universities
• And, of course, our traditional Summer School BBQ! ☀️🍔

A huge thank you to our students, academic staff, industry partners, and everyone who helped make this year’s Summer School such a success. We can’t wait to see what the next year brings!

See you at the next EMINENT Summer School! 💙

✨ Throwback to the EMINENT Winter School at the end of February! 📚

The Hellenic Mediterranean University proudly hosted the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) “Emerging Materials and Applications” in Heraklion, within the framework of EMINENT and the ATHENA European University Alliance.

📅 17–27 February 2026
👩‍🎓 52 undergraduate students & 👨‍🏫 10 academics from 6 European universities

Delivered in a hybrid format, the programme combined online lectures, hands-on laboratory sessions, student poster presentations, and visits to leading research facilities—including the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser. Participants gained valuable insights into cutting-edge applications of emerging functional materials.

The BIP fostered interdisciplinary collaboration, international teamwork, and research-oriented learning, while awarding 3 ECTS credits under Erasmus+.

HMU and ATHENA continue to strategically invest in internationalisation, innovation, and high-impact academic partnerships across Europe.

Our EMINENT student Lukas, who is currently spending his third semester at , is deepening his knowledge in Sensor Systems and Data Processing while working with innovative laboratory facilities and gaining valuable hands-on experience.

Read here what he has to share:
"Throughout my studies at Vilnius Tech, I expanded my knowledge in IC design and related fields, moving from theory to hands-on engineering. I gained experience in high-frequency circuit design, understanding node-level behavior, and low-level programming, supported by strong laboratory facilities where it was possible to work with advanced equipment such as a 28 GHz vector network analyzer.

I also worked with IoT systems, deep neural networks, and ARM microcontrollers, applying these concepts through practical projects and simulations. Overall, these studies strengthened my understanding in hardware, software, and system-level design."

Meet Leandro – currently in his third semester at , giving us an insight into his studies and experiences so far:

"During my time at UNL I have been able to learn a great deal about how natural materials are already revolutionizing our day to day life with incredible breakthroughs in vast areas like healthcare, sustainable electronics, and energy storage. The specialization manages to blend in a marvelous way the more theoretical aspects of biosensor design, fabrication methods and even information management with a strong practical component, where nature itself is used as the blueprint to create new materials and devices.

I learned how to leverage the properties of organic materials to transform them into components of innovative technologies such as biosensors, supercapacitors or to produce structural colors in an environmentally friendly way and additionally, how to ensure their quality by characterizing their structural, electrical and optical properties with different techniques.

My time in NOVA has opened my eyes to a world where nature and technology do not have to compete but rather, help each other to solve some of the most pressing problems of today and shaping the world of tomorrow."

🎄EMINENT Christmas Party🎄

This week, we gathered together for our EMINENT Christmas Party in Siegen and enjoyed a cozy evening full of festive spirit and cultural exchange. We shared Christmas traditions from different countries and talked about student life in Siegen while sipping on hot winter punch and enjoying some delicious German treats like Lebkuchen, Spekulatius and Vanillekipferl. 🍪🍫🫖

One of the highlights of the evening was a fun quiz on unique Christmas customs across Europe. Did you know that in Lithuania, 12 dishes are traditionally served on Christmas Eve?

It was great to see our EMINENT students getting together to share stories and traditions from all over the world ✨🌍

We wish you all a wonderful holiday season! 🎅🎁❄️
