16 process steps or 4?

Today, this question often determines quality, costs, and competitiveness. In the past, manufacturing the mold insert for the barrel of a fountain pen for our customer required coordinating numerous individual machining and inspection steps. Every additional step increases effort, the potential for errors, and lead time.

Using high-precision Röders milling technology and a customized automation solution, the manufacturing processes were reduced from up to 16 individual steps to just 4 automated machining steps. ⚠️

An impressive surface finish is not achieved only in the final machining step.

It is the result of a well-coordinated process chain. In addition to the machine’s precision, the tools and tool holders used also play a crucial role. Even the slightest vibrations or deviations can directly affect surface quality.

If complex turn-mill components leave no room for compromise, the right machine kinematics are essential.

The smaller C-table on the RPT600DSH allows for almost any turning range at speeds of up to 300 rpm. Combined with a swivel range of ±115°, this provides maximum degrees of freedom for demanding turn-mill applications.

Optical encoder systems, the highly rigid gantry design, and integrateable clamping systems ensure stable and repeatable processes, even when precision and surface quality requirements are high.

What actually makes the dynamic performance of modern Röders machines possible?

The RMS6 machine control system from Röders processes NC blocks in less than 0.1 ms and, thanks to lookahead, analyzes the tool path well in advance, covering over 10,000 blocks. Not every large milling machine is automatically designed for true HSC milling.

The RXP950 was developed for applications where true HSC milling is required even for larger components. With a working area of 950 x 905 x 500 mm and workpiece weights up to 2,000 kg, it combines high stability with the dynamics required for high-speed machining.

The weight-optimized design of all axes is particularly noticeable in mold making and when machining complex precision components. High feed rates of up to 60,000 mm/min ensure not only speed but, above all, reproducible surface quality.

Short machining times alone are no longer sufficient today. Stable processes, high surface finishes, and maximum repeatability are required.
