Two days in Kochi. One clear takeaway: Technology only matters when it improves decisions in real procedures.

ABIP 2026 brought together experts who do exactly that every day. The exchange was practical, direct, and focused on what truly works in interventional pulmonology.

At our booth, visitors explored our technologies such as VIO® 3, APC 3, ERBECRYO® 2, FiAPC®, FiAPC® plus, and SU Cryoprobes hands on.

The most valuable moments were not the demos themselves. They were the conversations around real cases, challenges, and better approaches. This is where innovation becomes clinical value.

Thank you to everyone who visited us, shared insights, and challenged perspectives.

What was your key takeaway from ABIP 2026?

One of the clinical highlights from Pulmonology on Air last Friday was shared by Prof. Li Shiyue and Dr. Chanhao Zhong.

They presented a robotic-assisted lung cryobiopsy in a 75-year-old female patient with a ground-glass nodule in the right upper lobe.

The approach combined robotic navigation with the Polaris™ system, rEBUS confirmation and CBCT imaging. With rEBUS in place, CBCT was used to verify tool-in-lesion before tissue sampling. Cryobiopsy was performed using a 1.1 mm cryoprobe and ERBECRYO® 2 and five samples were obtained.

This case provided valuable insights into the integration of imaging and navigation in complex biopsy procedure.

We thank Prof. Li and Dr. Zhong for contributing their experience to the Pulmonology on Air community.

A compelling case on central airway obstruction was presented by Dr. Hari Kishan and Dr. Preeti Vidyasagar during Pulmonology on Air.

A 47-year-old female patient presented with a broad polypoidal lesion in the distal left main bronchus. The team applied a combined approach using cryo and electrosurgical techniques with the full Erbe Pulmo setup including VIO® 3, APC 3 and ERBECRYO®2.

The procedure began with snare resection using Endocut Q to cut and coagulate in a single step. Tumor tissue was then extracted using a 1.7 mm cryoprobe. Bleeding control was achieved with APC using a straight fire probe.

We appreciate the insights shared by Dr. Kishan and Dr. Vidyasagar, and their contribution to the Pulmonology on Air community.

Dr. Judith Brock shared a case during Pulmonology on Air involving a 71-year-old male patient with a suspected tumor in the right upper lobe.

Lymph nodes were assessed based on size and PET-positivity to guide the sampling strategy.
The tumor was accessible via bronchoscopy and visualized in the bronchus. Sampling included rEBUS guidance and cryobiopsy with a 1.1 mm probe. Initial freezing time was set to 3 seconds and adapted to 5 seconds after first sample control.

We appreciate Dr. Brock’s contribution and her case-based insights shared with the Pulmonology on Air community.

Prof. Piero Candoli presented a case during Pulmonology On Air focusing on EBUS-guided cryobiopsy of mediastinal lymph nodes.

The patient showed mediastinal lymphadenopathies on FDG-PET scan. The procedure of the lymph node sampling began with EBUS scope insertion and vessel assessment. A 22G crown-cut needle was used for the first puncture, allowing the subsequent insertion of a 1.1 mm cryoprobeto enter the lymph node.

Initial freezing time was set to 3 seconds. The final sample was removed en bloc with 4 seconds freezing time.

We thank Prof. Candoli for sharing this case and contributing valuable insights to the Pulmonology on Air community.

We witnessed the power of global collaboration in pulmonology today:

Prof. Li Shiyue and Dr. Chanhao Zhong performed a robotic cryobiopsy of a ground-glass nodule using a 1.1 mm probe with CBCT and rEBUS guidance.

Dr. Gu Ye biopsied mediastinal lymph nodes using cryotechnology and visualized tumor tissue with TXI and RDI technology.

Dr. Hari Kishan and Dr. Preeti Vidyasagar treated a central airway obstruction using a complete Erbe Pulmo station (VIO 3, APC 3 and ERBECRYO 2): snare resection with EndoCut Q, cryoextraction, and APC for bleeding control.

Dr. Judith Brock combined bronchoscopy, rEBUS and cryobiopsy to sample a tumor mass in the RUL.

Dr. applied the dual-scope technique to reach peripheral lesions with cryo.

Prof. Piero Candoli performed EBUS-guided cryobiopsy of mediastinal nodes with stepwise freezing.

To all physicians involved today: thank you for pushing the boundaries of modern pulmonology.

Once clinicians become confident with cryo many rarely go back.
But where does it truly add value in the diagnostic pathway?

At ERS 2025 cryo and EBUS were central to discussions on managing complex cases. From central airway obstruction to mediastinal cryobiopsy and the diagnosis of peripheral pulmonary lesions these techniques are becoming part of daily clinical decision-making.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth, and a special thank-you to Prof. Grigoris Stratakos, Dr. Sammy Onyancha, Dr. Viswesvaran Balasubramanian and Dr. Lambers for sharing their insights in our sessions.

See you in Barcelona at ERS 2026!
