How do trees deal with injuries?

Trees can live for many decades, often even centuries. During this time, they are constantly exposed to environmental influences and suffer damage again and again, for example from storms, pruning, or fungal infections.

But how do they respond to this? Unlike humans, trees do not heal their wounds. Instead, they actively isolate damaged tissue. The principle behind this is called CODIT.

📈 How do you actually read a measurement curve correctly?

The measurement is complete and the curve is right in front of you. But in which direction should it be read? From left to right like a book, or the other way around?

Around 85 to 90 % of people are right-handed. That is why the IML-RESI PowerDrill® is designed to be held in the right hand and drill from right to left. The measurement curve follows exactly this movement. It is therefore read from right to left.

Did you already know that? 💡

💡 Tip of the Week

Today, our expert Alexander shows you how to adjust the drilling depth on your IML-RESI PowerDrill.

This function is especially useful when there is another material behind the wood that should not be drilled into. Particularly in timber frame inspections, the preset drilling depth helps prevent the needle from hitting concrete or other materials located behind the wood.

With the right setting, you stay on the safe side.

Have you used this function before?

💡 Tip of the Week

Our IML-RESI and PiCUS devices are highly sophisticated instruments. Nevertheless, many smaller tasks can be carried out by yourself.

With our new “Tip of the Week” format, we regularly share practical advice and simple step-by-step instructions for maintenance, minor repairs, or handling specific error messages.

Today: Drill needle replacement

A sharp and properly functioning drill needle is essential for precise and reliable measurements.

Worn drill needles can increase strain and may affect or distort measurement results. That is why timely replacement is important.

How to correctly replace the drill needle yourself is shown in the video.

💡 PiCUS tips & tricks

Did you know? In the analysis software of the PiCUS Sonic Tomograph, the first measurement point is displayed by default facing north.

Tip: Place your first measurement point on the tree facing north as well. This helps you maintain orientation and gives you a clear and easy to understand evaluation.

🌞 The cold days are slowly coming to an end, and summer is just around the corner. Warm summers often bring long dry periods with little rainfall, which affect not only us but also plants.

Dry soils make water uptake more difficult and put plants under stress, which can have long-term consequences. Detecting drought stress early is therefore essential. One solution is our PiCUS Tension.

The sensor system measures soil water tension as well as other parameters such as temperature, soil moisture, and nutrient content. Data can be viewed daily and remotely in the WebGIS application. A simple traffic-light system alerts you when conditions deteriorate. 🚦

🌳 Trees in nature are rarely perfectly round. They show individual indentations and irregular contours.

For a precise diagnosis, these characteristic shapes must be captured accurately.

The PiCUS Sonic Tomograph makes this possible through flexible measurement points. This allows the specific shape of each tree to be mapped exactly.

Did you know? With our PiCUS Sonic Tomograph, up to 99 measuring points can be recorded. 🌳

How does it work? Through a unique method in which the sensors are repositioned step by step around the tree.

This allows even large-diameter trees to be examined precisely and comprehensively using sonic measurement.

For you as a user, this is a strong unique feature that helps you clearly stand out in tree inspection.
