We’re excited to announce that Harmonikahusene is an Architizer A+Awards finalist for the 'Multi-Unit Housing – Mid Rise (5–15 Floors)' category.

Vote for the project until May 15th: https://tinyurl.com/Architizer-Awards-EFFEKT

Harmonikahusene is conceived as a green, open micro-neighbourhood - carefully integrated into its context and defined by a strong architectural identity.

With 700 compact homes for students and young professionals, the design demonstrates how a user-centred approach to compact-living can deliver high-quality accomodation at scale.

At the heart of the design is a custom bay window - bringing in daylight, extending the living area, and acting as a naturally ventilated buffer from the busy Åboulevard. These sculpted niches open up multiple vistas, transforming compact apartments into flexible spaces for studying, relaxing, and socializing.

The building’s accordion-like façade is an expression of the interior logic, while the rounded perimeter typology responds to the scale and character of Frederiksberg’s historic fabric - simultaneously shielding common spaces from the street while providing access to green courtyards, rooftop gardens, and communal areas. The compact footprint of the building also frees up space for a local park, extending value to the wider community.

A welcoming ground floor supports daily life with study spaces, a library, laundry, shared living areas, and fitness facilities. In the basement, over 1,100 integrated bicycle parking spaces connect directly to Copenhagen’s supercycle network, ensuring a car-free lifestyle and high accessibility standards.

Sinus Lynge’s Daylight Talk, “The Nature of Light,” recently delivered at the Royal Danish Academy, is now available to stream at daylightandarchitecture.com

In the lecture, Sinus explores how daylight shapes four EFFEKT projects – Living Places, SIMAC, Harmonikahusene, and the Forest Tower.

Thank you to Tina Christensen and the VELUX Group, our hosts, and everyone who attended.

This summer at Roskilde Festival, Thin Green Line Productions ApS joined us to document the ongoing transformation of Hal 9 – the festival’s future headquarters and creative hub in the heart of Roskilde’s Musicon district.

In collaboration with Jespersen Nødtvedt, Artelia Denmark, and Krogsgaard & Co, we are reimagining 2,000 m² of raw concrete into a dynamic home for culture, community, and everyday life. Designed as a gathering place for volunteers and local changemakers, Hal 9 will also feature a 600 m² event hall for concerts, art, and co-creation.

Our joint vision is for Hal 9 to become more than just a building: it is a manifestation of radical circular thinking. By reusing as many materials and components as possible and avoiding unnecessary waste, we aim to reduce the project’s climate footprint while proving that transformation can set new standards in architecture.

Hal 9 will stand as both a base for Roskilde Festival and a living example of how the built environment can drive cultural energy, collaboration, and change. We are excited that Thin Green Line’s upcoming documentary will capture the process and help spread ideas for the necessary change our industry faces — making them tangible and inspiring for a wider audience.

Groundbreaking!

An important milestone for our project Sjællandsk Muld in Hvalsø, Denmark. The community-oriented housing area, which is a part of the Hyllegaard Høje Masterplan, will be built mainly in biogenic materials. Solar panels will produce the buildings' electricity consumption, heat will be generated by a common geothermal heating system and rainwater will be collected locally, redirected to a water reservoir and used to irrigate Hyllegaard's fields. We can't wait for people to move in next year.

Developed with Sjællandsk Muld’s residents and Hyllegaard Udvikling and built in collaboration with Almenr ∙ Bofællesskaber , Bertelsen , Enemærke & Petersen a/s and Viggo Madsen.

The Housing Lab Exhibition in Living Places Copenhagen opens tomorrow on Tuesday 9 May.

The Housing Lab is an experimental housing project launched by ReaRealdaniad StaStatens Kunstfond explore how housing can respond to the current climate crisis, future urban challenges, shifting family patterns and new ways of living. We are delighted that Living Places Copenhagen serves as the exhibition venue for like-minded experimental housing projects.

DorDorte MandrupS IS IT A BIRDKAB, AG AG Gruppenteen Bisgaard Jensen, Glad Fonden, CopCopenhagen Institute for Futures Studiesudies and Søren Jensen Consulting Engineers are investigating how to break with the established commercial structures of the housing market to accommodate the increasing need for inclusion and community.

The exhibition is curated by NORD Architects Copenhagen Copenhagen as part of World Capital of Architecture and runs until 15 November.

The exhibition ‘The Housing Lab’ in Jernbanebyen will show seven different responses to what the housing of the today could look like – all being built within the next few years as part of the initiative The Housing Lab (Boliglaboratorium in Danish).

How does the Paris Agreement become a common starting point for decisions and solutions in construction instead of a distant and intangible vision?

Tomorrow at Building Green Aarhus co-founder of EFFEKT, Sinus Lynge, will take the stage together with Mikkel Schlesinger, Partner in CEBRA architecture and Rasmus Søgaard, Civil Engineer at Artelia.

They will share how the Reduction Roadmap gives the industry a stronger common starting point for accelerating the green transition – and ask how the goals can be translated into action throughout the value chain in the construction industry.
Since the launch of the roadmap in September 2022, a movement has been set in motion and at Building Green Aarhus they will take a closer look at new projects demonstrating the solutions to build within the roadmap.

Today is the day! The doors have officially opened to Living Places Copenhagen – with record low carbon footprint. What the industry really needs at this point is the type of positive, collaborative approach we have had with the VELUX , Artelia Danmark, Enemærke & Petersen A/S, Stykka n and many more – working towards a common goal. We are humbled end hopeful that this project will have a ripple effect throughout the construction industry. We have the solutions we need, now we just need to implement them!
Living Places Copenhagen demonstrate a new way of building homes with a CO2 footprint of 3.8 kg/CO2/m2/year – three times lower than the current Danish legislation of 12 kg CO2/m2/year – and to a price that matches the market price for a one-family house or rowhouses at scale.

Can’t wait to see you all at the public opening on Earth Day – April 22: https://buildforlife.velux.com/en/livingplaces/events/earth-day-at-living-places-copenhagen

As official partner of the World Capital of Architecture we look forward to contributing to this gigantic collective effort with exhibitions, talks, debates and guided tours for Copenhageners and visitors.

Tapping into the theme “Copenhagen in Common”, we wish to contribute to the discussion on how to build within the planetary boundaries while at the same time fulfilling human needs and how to guide building industry activities towards a safe and just operating space.

Some of the things we look forward to in 2023 is the grand opening of Living Places (April 22 2023 at 10.00 - 15.00): an exhibition of five open pavilions and two finished homes in full scale that rethinks how we build today; the opening of the outdoor exhibition of Frederiksberg Hospital (June 21 - December 31 2023): an insight into our vision for how Frederiksberg Hospital will be transformed into a completely new urban area when the hospital closes in 2027 - developed in collaboration with Arkitema, and finally, the opening of the Dansk Arkitektur Center - DAC exhibition “Copenhagen in Common” (May 5 - October 22 2023) where our project Urban Village will be featured: a concept proposing a new way of building that ensures sustainable, affordable and livable housing for the many - developed in collaboration with SPACE10.

We will participate in a wide range of activities throughout the year. See the preliminary program here, which will continuously be updated.
