There are worse ways to deliver a bicycle.

Three days ago, my good friend David and I left Copenhagen heading west.

David was riding the same Siggi I rolled through Germany and Austria last month. I was riding a VeloSled, carrying 60 kg of cargo on its way to its new owner in Lisbjerg, just outside Aarhus.

Three days of cycling.
Three days of strong headwinds.
Three days of carrying a rather serious load.

And surprisingly little need for help from the motor. Most of the time I was perfectly happy with just one bar of assistance from the Neodrives system.

We camped both nights, enjoyed the weather, the fresh air and the landscape — although, to be honest, a little tailwind would have been very welcome.

There is something wonderfully satisfying about delivering a bicycle under its own power.

Not in a van.
Not on a pallet.
Just riding it to its new home.

After three days and a few hundred kilometres, I have even more confidence that VeloSled is exactly what we designed it to be.

A bicycle that carries its load — and takes you along with it.

It was also a wonderful way to revisit my own design. I haven’t ridden a VeloSled this far before, and I even reached 47 km/h on a downhill stretch — completely rock solid and stable.

Some ideas live on!

Before Siggi. Before VeloSled. Before Coh&Co became what it is today, we built bicycles from something rather unusual: 0.3 mm ash veneer combined with carbon fibre.

We called them WooCa.

The frames were made as hollow composite structures, and they were surprisingly light. More importantly, they had a completely different feel from the carbon bikes I had ridden before. The wooden skins absorbed road vibrations, while the frame geometry and the combination of materials gave the bikes a wonderfully lively feel — almost like riding on a bow that was always ready to propel an arrow forward.

Unfortunately, they were not commercially viable, and we never quite managed to make people understand what made them special.

One of the original WooCa bikes has lived in England with a friend of mine, an avid cyclist, for many years. He is visiting Denmark this weekend. He can no longer keep the bike, so before bringing it back to me, he took it out for one last 40 km ride through the English countryside with his friends — all of them riding modern carbon road bikes.

I love that image.

Tomorrow we'll be crossing Denmark together: him on a Siggi, me on a VeloSled.

This is a bit of a bike model reunion, a WooCa, a VeloSled and the newest design a Siggi folding bike. Three generations of Coh&Co thinking.

The materials and products have changed enormously over the years. The fascination with making something light, strong, beautiful and different hasn't.

Perhaps some ideas really do live on.

Every journey eventually points towards home.

Four weeks of new horizons draw to a close.

Copenhagen. Bavaria. Vienna. Salzburg. Kitzbühel. Innsbruck. Hiking in the Austrian Alps.

Four weeks of travelling with Siggi and our new CohGo Packs have left me with countless ideas, pages of notes, a few improvements to make and—best of all—a smile.

Now it's time to head home, turn those ideas into the next generation of Coh&Co bicycles and CohGo Packs.

This journey may be reaching its end, but the adventure is only just beginning.

Every designer stands on someone else's shoulders.

A while ago someone commented that our new backpack looks like the bags once made by RED_REBANE in Germany.

They're right.

I'd much rather tell that story myself than pretend otherwise, because I consider them to be friends.

Long before we met RED_REBANE, Coh&Co had been developing convertible backpack panniers. Back in 2016 we built our first prototypes with the simple ambition of making a bag that worked equally well on a bicycle and on your back. We experimented with waxed cotton, Cordura, laminated carbon fibre hooks, and later production in both Denmark and Romania.

Like many small companies, we struggled to turn a good idea into a sustainable product.

Then, in 2021, we met Chris and Stephan from RED_REBANE.

I immediately admired what they had created. Their bags were beautifully made, clean, functional and refreshingly honest. We ended up working together for a period to develop production of the canopy and textile portions of the Coh&Co VeloSled, cargo bike. I carried one of their backpacks almost every day for the next two years.

Good design leaves an impression.

Working with RED_REBANE helped develop my thoughts on proportions, simplicity and functionality. At the same time, our own ideas kept evolving. We wanted recycled materials, waterproof zippers, a larger volume, dedicated storage for everyday essentials, removable shoulder-straps, and above all a modular hook-and-loop attachment system that allows the backpack to be mounted on any bicycle rack in as flexible a manner as possible.

So yes, you will recognise a good deal of RED_REBANE's design philosophy and aesthetics in our new backpack.

Not because we copied a bag.

Because good designers inspire other designers.

Sadly, RED_REBANE has also been through difficult times and paused much of their bag production. I sincerely hope to see them succeed again. If you appreciate beautifully designed cycling equipment, have a look at what they're doing.

The world needs all the good ideas and innovative Design it can get.

The bicycle wasn't the biggest thing I tested on this trip.

Three years ago I arrived in Vienna after riding Siggi all the way from Copenhagen.

This time I arrived for a different reason.

Not to prove that a prototype could make the journey, but to remind myself that Coh&Co is moving forward again.

Over the past two weeks Siggi has carried me through Bavaria and along the Danube to Vienna. My ride has been problem-free and Siggi did everything I asked of it. Just as importantly, our new convertible pannier backpacks have completed their first real expedition and taught me exactly what needs improving before they go into production.

Today the journey continues by train to Salzburg and then into the Austrian Alps.

Coh&Co has designed and produced bikes for more than ten years, Siggi was designed to be a two wheeled companion that could accompany its owner anywhere. A bike for train trips, planes, or even an everyday commute, that can then be unfolded on arrival to explore new places.

Siggi has shown me that it can fulfil the role we intended for it, and that the products and ideas we develop are ready for the adventures ahead.

The road doesn't end in Vienna.

It starts here.

I've built boats and sailed them across oceans.

I've designed and sewn sails.

I've developed electronics.

And as those who have followed Coh&Co may know I've spent a good part of my life designing carbon fibre bicycles.

At heart, I have most likely always been an industrial designer. Whether sewing, machining metal or bladder-moulding carbon fibre; I love taking an idea from a sketch to the point where it feels complete. The point where removing anything would diminish it, and adding to it would only complicate it.

That point can never be reached behind a computer screen.

Products have to earn their place in the real world.

That is why I brought these two prototypes along with me.

After more than a week and several hundred kilometers through Bavaria, Upper Austria and Lower Austria on our Siggi folding bike, our new convertible pannier backpacks have done exactly that.

These are still prototypes, and they've taught me a lot.

A couple of webbing straps need to move by about 20 mm.

The modular hook-and-loop pannier attachment needs a little reinforcement.

- But on the whole I am both proud and satisfied, everything else worked exactly as intended.

Made from 100% recycled nylon with a recycled TPU coating, they've carried everything I needed, kept the contents dry through heavy rain, and transformed from pannier to backpack every evening with nothing more than the pulling of a zipper to reveal the shoulder straps.

My only real mistake?

Packing far too much.

Fortunately, that's part of testing too.

After two years of radio silence, it's finally time for a Coh&Co update.

Today, I'm riding towards Vienna once again.

Not to launch a bicycle.

But to rebuild the company behind it.

Three years ago I rode our carbon fibre folding bike, Siggi, from Copenhagen to Vienna on its very first long-distance touring test. It was an incredible journey and marked the beginning of what we hoped would become the next chapter for Coh&Co.

Life had other plans.

The years that followed brought challenges none of us expected. Coh&Co went through bankruptcy, and rebuilding the company has taken far longer than I ever imagined.

The route along the Donau is familiar.

Everything else is different.

Over the past two years we've rebuilt Coh&Co from the ground up. We've rebuilt our supply chain, strengthened our partnerships, refined our bikes, and developed entirely new products. Most importantly, we're finally approaching the point where we can start bringing Coh&Co bicycles back into the world.

This trip isn't just about cycling. It's about testing equipment, gathering ideas, meeting people, and reminding myself why we started building bicycles in the first place.

Over the coming weeks I'll be sharing more from the journey, giving you a look behind the scenes, introducing our new products, and showing where Coh&Co is heading next.
