The Maritime Industry Authority(MARINA - DOTC) in partnership with Green Marine Group spearheaded a symposium on decarbonization titled "Charting the Course: Empowering Seafarers for a Decarbonized Shipping Future."
Held on March 19-20, 2025, in Manila, the event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and experts to equip seafarers and maritime stakeholders with essential knowledge and skills for the transition to greener shipping. Discussions centered on innovative strategies, best practices, and strengthened collaboration to advance sustainability in the maritime sector.
STCW Office Executive Director Samuel Batalla opened the symposium by emphasizing the shared responsibility in shaping a sustainable future for the industry. Meanwhile, MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan highlighted the Philippinesโ pivotal role in global shipping, describing Filipino seafarers as the backbone of the industry.
"Any transformation in the maritime sector must prioritize our seafarers, ensuring they are well-equipped with the competencies needed for a green and decarbonized future. MARINA is taking proactive steps to align policies, training programs, and industry partnerships with this green transition," Malaluan stated.
The Green Marine Group, led by our CEO/CLO Joakim Bondesen and Managing Director Donnie Bagang, proudly spearheaded discussions on innovative solutions for a cleaner and more sustainable maritime future. Our team of experts shared valuable insights to support the industry's transition toward greener shipping.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to MARINA, especially STCWO METS Supervisor Presca Lee Lugo, for their trust in Green Marine. A special thanks as well to our esteemed partners and speakers for contributing to this significant event, highlighting the critical role of seafarers in the global energy transition.
