📊 Earlier this week, Kim Nørby Christensen presented at the IDA Maritime & DSNAME Conference on and Future Fuels — showing how KNUD E. HANSEN analyses operational data from existing vessels and feeds those findings directly into energy-efficient newbuilding specifications and retrofit solutions.

For one particular project, a total of 6% fuel saving was identified. Of these, 1% came from a single solution that could be implemented without any cost. ⚓

📍 Visit us at booth 473, where Julius Duval Birk and Anna Katrina Joensen will be available to connect with students interested in ship design, engineering, and career opportunities in the maritime industry.

Both Julius and Anna are DTU alumni with degrees in . They will be happy to share their experience and answer any questions about working in the industry.

Anna works in the Steel and Structure Department, focusing on structural integrity and durability. Julius is part of the Machinery and Systems Department, working on propulsion efficiency and energy management.

🚢 “LCO₂ tanker from a ship designers’ perspective” – Earlier this week, on Wednesday, 1 October, our Senior Mechanical Engineer & Project Manager Kim Kim Nørby Christensen presented at the European CO2 Shipping Summit in Antwerp.

He addressed why a CO2 tanker is a special kind of tanker and not just an ordinary LPG tanker, how the characteristics of CO2 affect ship design, and what lies ahead for CO2 ship design.

KNUD E. HANSEN has developed a series of CO2 projects in recent years, supporting our clients in their green transition towards a reduced carbon footprint.

KNUD E. HANSEN is pleased to announce the ongoing collaboration with Orkney Islands Council on the design of a new ferry that will connect Kirkwall with the surrounding islands.

The project is being developed in close dialogue with the client to ensure the vessel meets both operational requirements and the needs of the local community.

Wallenius Marine and KNUD E. HANSEN introduced a new concept for a RoRo vessel at Donsö Shipping Meet.

With the engine room placed in the bow, the design allows for an impressive cargo capacity of 2,720 lane metres — equal to 181 trailers.

🚢 The GRANDE SHANGHAI recently successfully completed sea trial and was officially named during a ceremony in Haimen District in the Nantong City of Jiangsu Province, P.R. China. It is the first in a series of ten (10) next-generation PCTC vessels for Grimaldi Group.

KNUD E. HANSEN developed the vessel’s design in close collaboration with Grimaldi Group.

Measuring 220 metres in length and 38 metres in width, the vessel has a gross tonnage of over 93,000 and capacity for 9,000 CEU.

Built at China Merchants Heavy Industry (Jiangsu) Co.,Ltd, the GRANDE SHANGHAI is the first in the Grimaldi Group fleet to carry the Ammonia Ready class notation from RINA — allowing for future conversion to ammonia as a zero-carbon fuel. The vessel also features a 5 MWh battery system, cold ironing, air lubrication, and a wide range of energy-saving technologies.
