🌱 Exciting to see the VideometerLab with Autofeeder taking seed conservation to the next level!

This week, our Software Developer Oksana Bondarenko travelled to NordGen, the Nordic Genetic Resource Center in Sweden, to install the Autofeeder system on their VideometerLab.

NordGen safeguards plant genetic diversity for future generations, and we're proud to support their seed analysis and quality control work with enhanced automation capabilities.

The timing is particularly fitting: NordGen is currently hosting Emmy Hendrickx from HAS green academy who is using the instrument to study flax seeds through non-destructive spectral imaging. Her project maps multispectral characteristics, texture, shape, colour, fat content, chlorophyll, and fluorescence, to investigate how these traits relate to the intended use of the flax and its geographical origin. All of this, without damaging a single seed.

We look forward to continuing our collaboration with NordGen and following the exciting research ahead! 🤝

Multispectral imaging is becoming an important tool in the future of seed quality assessment.

This week, ISTA, together with Leiden University and Aarhus University, hosted a workshop in Rødvig, Denmark focused on the use of imaging tools for seed determination and purity determination.

During the hands-on sessions, participants worked with VideometerLab technology to explore how imaging can help distinguish between challenging seed samples.

It was great to see researchers, seed testing professionals, industry experts, and technology providers come together to discuss the current applications, challenges, and future potential of imaging-based seed analysis.

Thank you to ISTA - International Seed Testing Association, Leiden University, Aarhus University, the lecturers, and all participants for an inspiring workshop.

How can multispectral imaging support the future of seed quality assessment? 🤝

Next week, ISTA will hold a workshop in Rødvig, Denmark focusing on the use of Videometer technology for seed quality assessment. The workshop will bring together seed testing professionals, researchers, and industry experts for hands-on training and discussion.

Participants will explore applications in other seeds determination and purity determination, including practical demo samples such as Cuscuta spp. - invasive plants with seed surface characteristics that make them especially relevant for imaging-based analysis.

With hands-on sessions using Videometer equipment, participants will learn how multispectral imaging can help distinguish between small samples of w**d seeds and crop seeds.

A valuable opportunity to experience how the Videometer technology can support more objective, efficient, and reproducible seed quality assessment.

Food fraud remains one of the seafood industry’s most pressing challenges. From species mislabeling to illegal product treatments, ensuring authenticity and traceability across the supply chain has never been more important.
New technologies are changing how the industry approaches these challenges.

In the chapter "Advances in Biotechnology" in Seafood 4.0, Professor Jørgen Lerfall from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) explores, among others, how spectral imaging and AI can support:

• Seafood authenticity verification
• Rapid, non-destructive quality assessment
• Fraud detection
• Improved traceability across the value chain

He also highlights the role of VideometerLab and VideometerLite+, as well as our participation in the TraceMyFish project (2022–2024), focused on advancing transparency and trust in the seafood industry.

As seafood supply chains become increasingly complex, combining biotechnology, spectral imaging, and AI will be essential for building more reliable and sustainable systems.

A cost-efficient approach to liquid analysis? 🥛🔬

With the Liq add-on, the VideometerLite+ now supports both solid and liquid analysis within a single platform. This enables laboratories to work across multiple sample types without changing systems or introducing additional complexity.

From dairy to beverages and liquid ingredients, this setup supports reliable and reproducible measurements for applications such as shelf life studies, stability assessment, and quality control.

By combining these capabilities in one solution, workflows can be simplified, laboratory space optimized, and the need for separate instruments reduced, while maintaining consistency in data and analysis methods across different matrices.

Last Friday, we gathered at Charlottelund Fort for our annual Quality Day at Videometer. ☀️

A day dedicated to something that sits at the core of everything we do: quality.

We spent the morning diving into presentations and discussions around our quality standards, reflecting on how we work today and where we can improve. From processes and workflows to our everyday habits and work environment, the focus was on continuously raising the bar.

We also stepped outside the meeting room for a physical activity that reminded ourselves why our differences make us stronger as a team.

Later, we had the pleasure of welcoming consultants from IDA, who guided us through a session on psychological safety at work. We were proud to see strong results from their questionnaire and used the insights to explore how we can further strengthen our collaboration and teamwork.

We wrapped up the day the best way possible: with a delicious dinner together.

A great reminder that quality isn’t just about what we deliver, it’s about how we work, grow, and support each other along the way. 🤝

What if we could significantly reduce concrete production's footprint through smarter production? 🏗️

With the VISTACON project, supported by Innovation Fund Denmark, we are working to do exactly that.

Together with Danish Technological Institute, DTU - Technical University of Denmark, Unicon A/S, and SKAKO Concrete A/S, Videometer is developing an advanced spectral imaging system, that includes wavelengths between 400 and 1700 nm, combined with AI-driven image analysis to enable real-time monitoring of concrete raw materials.

New research published by Wang et al. demonstrates how Videometer's spectral imaging helped scientists precisely identify heat-producing tissue inside Magnolia flowers non-destructively.

By combining infrared imaging with spectral imaging, AI and machine learning, researchers were able to distinguish thermogenic and non-thermogenic tissues, detect biochemical changes in the near-infrared range, and guide deeper analysis of calcium signaling and mitochondrial metabolism.

The study highlights how spectral imaging goes beyond surface inspection, enabling precise plant phenotyping.

At Videometer, we’re proud to see our technology supporting advanced plant science and helping uncover what was previously invisible.
