Holm & Holm A/S - Company Version 2.0
The long-standing Nibe-based company specializing in plastic welding equipment has relocated from Nibe town to Skalhuse. The new premises include a 1000 sqm facility with computer-controlled storage racks and high ceilings.
"We now have space for development and more presentable rooms for our partners, as well as better working conditions for our employees. It was a bit cramped at the old location," admits Mogens Holm, who owns the unique company along with his brother Henrik Holm and nephew Lars Holm. The company has achieved a significant market share in Denmark and has customers worldwide.
Currently, there are five employees, who have diverse tasks in their daily work. For example, two of them were in the Faroe Islands when the business magazine visited.
Plastic Pipes Replaced Iron Pipes
Originally, we were in the metalworking industry in the 1990s, producing process plants and solid fuel plants. Through a partner, we discovered the potential of working with plastic pipe welding. This industry emerged from gas extraction in the North Sea, leading to a revolutionary development in the pipe industry in Denmark. Traditionally, almost all water and sewer pipes were made of metal and cement. These were the materials craftsmen were familiar with and customers wanted. However, plastic pipes are much more functional, easier to work with, and have a longer lifespan. They are also easier to repair and recycle.
Industry Activity
Holm & Holm's specific competencies involve delivering and servicing plastic welding machines, which are indispensable for renovating and installing water and sewer systems. Currently, there is a lot of activity for contractors working on separate sewer systems and cable work across Denmark.
"We are exclusive distributors of the best brands in the industry, typically German-made, and we also sell to wholesalers in Denmark. Additionally, we have customers far beyond the country's borders," says Lars Holm.
Many of the machines need annual servicing regardless of their location due to documentation, quality assurance, and regulatory requirements. Therefore, Holm & Holm services and calibrates most of the machines sold in Denmark at their workshop in Skalhuse. For the Faroe Islands, it is more efficient for customers to gather their machines at a location there, and Holm & Holm sends competent service personnel.
Seeking New Employees
Mogens Holm states, "We believe we are an attractive workplace for those who want to influence their daily work, and we can actually use more employees in our growth plans. We are not necessarily looking for employees with specific professional qualifications, but rather those who can handle machines, storage, and orders with the right mindset and enjoy customer contact. We will supplement their skills with what we can offer. We have certainly made the surroundings and working conditions attractive in the new premises - also for new employees."
Holm & Holm originally came from Aalborg. The company and its then-owners moved with their families to Nibe, and they have never regretted it. For many years, the company had the vision of getting new facilities in or around Nibe. This has now been achieved with the establishment in Skalhuse.
With the new facilities, we can sell more to more customers. The investment has led to more efficient operations, opening up opportunities to serve more customers with the quality we are known for - and we will not compromise on that, emphasize uncle and nephew Mogens Holm and Lars Holm.
Holm & Holm has also supplied plastic welding equipment to customers in Japan, Hong Kong, Dubai, and many other places, besides being market leaders in Denmark.
