🗺️ The Geological Maps of Ecuador – Alberto Semanate (1934) 🇪🇨
🎓 The Dominican priest Alberto Semanate (1890–1958) dedicated his life to teaching and scientific research. He studied ecclesiastical sciences in Quito and Belgium 🇪🇨🇧🇪, and later Geology, Mathematics, and Seismology in France, Germany, and the United States 🇫🇷🇩🇪🇺🇸. He served as director of the (Escuela Politécnica Nacional) and as a professor at universities in Quito and Cuenca. Among his main works are studies on crystallography, mineralogy, mining, and seismology, including the 1949 Pelileo earthquake.
📖 This work addresses three main topics:
I. Engineering and Agriculture 🏗️🌱
It explains the importance of geological maps for engineering and agriculture, particularly for understanding terrain and soil types.
II. Metallic Ore Deposits ⛏️💎
It examines how mineral deposits form and their relationship with volcanism 🌋, rocks, and other geological phenomena.
III. Alteration of Ore Deposits 🔬🪨
It explains how minerals change underground, particularly gold, silver, and copper, and which of these can be economically exploited.
