Around 3,000 kW of thermal output drawn from seawater.

On a former passenger ferry, six custom-built heat pumps draw energy from the sea to provide both heating and cooling. The system uses the existing seawater pumps that once cooled the vessel’s AC units.

Renovation, interior work and technical installations were carried out to convert the vessel into a floating accommodation for workers on a major construction project.

Upgrading obsolete PLC and HMI platforms does not require a new control cabinet.

We modernise and upgrade these systems within the existing cabinet, including platforms that still run mission-critical onboard equipment. Only the controller, I/O modules and operator interface are replaced, while the housing, field wiring and terminal connections remain unchanged. We work across Siemens, Rockwell, Schneider Modicon, Mitsubishi, Omron, GE and ABB platforms, and reconstruct the logic where the original source code is lost.

Alex Vainokivi appointed Managing Director of SRC Estonia.

Vainokivi, previously Innovation Manager, takes over day-to-day management from founder and major shareholder Hannes Lilp, who remains CEO and Chairman of SRC Group.
Lilp will focus on the Group’s strategic management, international business development and collaboration with the heads of its subsidiaries.
Vainokivi will be responsible for SRC Estonia’s day-to-day management and business performance, including business generated through SRC Nordic and SRC USA and delivered by SRC Estonia.

The change supports SRC’s plans to grow its project-based services alongside its proprietary products and technologies.

Broken hairdryers, failed chargers, damaged domestic appliances and the passenger complaints that follow can all be caused by harmonic distortion on passenger vessels.

Over the past decade, power quality has become a major issue for the maritime industry. Variable frequency drives are now standard on most vessels, but they also introduce harmonics into the onboard network.
If left unmanaged, harmonic distortion can affect sensitive equipment, onboard comfort and compliance with class requirements.

SRC measures power quality onboard at sea, during manoeuvring, in port and on shore power. We identify harmonic sources, resonance conditions and select the right mitigation based on the results: active input stage drives, passive filters, active filtering or load reconfiguration. Post-installation measurements verify the outcome, documented for the owner and classification society.

SPS technology was the topic of conversation at our stand during SMM.

Almost a month ago now, our great partners SPS Technology joined us at our stand, where Ian Nash talked through SPS as an alternative to traditional crop-and-renew repairs.

SPS is applied on-site much faster than the conventional crop-and-replace process, and minimises expensive below-deck work. Both uses reduce labor, time out of service, and costs.

The Estonian Ministry of Climate has honoured SRC with the Partner of the Year 2026 award.

Alex Vainokivi was originally meant to attend, but while the ceremony was taking place he was working closely with the Estonian Delegation at the IMO Headquarters in London.

Thankfully, Kennet Jõgi stepped in and received the award on his behalf.

We're proud of the recognition and look forward to continuing the collaboration.

Come join our team of Engineers as a Design Engineer for Ship Conversions at SRC Estonia.

This role is about turning technical requirements into practical, workable design solutions, reading and understanding technical drawings and documentation, and working closely with project managers, engineers, sales teams and customers or independently to identify issues and contribute to effective solutions.

We're looking for someone with a background in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Design Engineering, or a related field, and a genuine interest in shipbuilding and ship conversion. You should have good technical understanding, communication and time management skills, and be comfortable with, or keen to learn, CAD tools like AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Navisworks, SolidWorks, Faro SCENE, or ShipConstructor.

More space for methanol and ethanol fuel, while maintaining an equivalent level of safety.

This week at IMO headquarters in London, SRC’s Alex Vainokivi and Ian Nash from SPS Technology presented sandwich structures as an alternative to conventional cofferdams around methanol and ethanol fuel tanks.

Hosted by the Estonian delegation during CCC 12, the presentation explored how Methanol Superstorage uses SPS technology to increase usable tank volume. We shared test results and marine service experience supporting the technical case for equivalent safety.

For shipowners, the opportunity is significant: more fuel capacity within the same space, making alternative-fuel conversions and newbuild designs more practical.

Engineered to fit the space available.

Where machinery space is limited, SRC's heat pump can be supplied as individual modular components, sized and arranged to integrate into constrained spaces that a single unit could not reach.
Where space allows, the same solution can be delivered as a pre-assembled, pre-tested skid-mounted unit, built and tested off-site before it reaches the vessel.

Whichever route suits the vessel, the objective stays the same: an installation designed around the space available, not the other way around.
