The Clean&Care Certification Board: Background and dynamics

Because of his previous training as a specialist in the military, the GM of Horizon Development was a frontline expert during the 2002 Anthrax Crisis in the US, working closely with emergency responders and pharmaceutical labs. Horizon Development has specialized in the hospitality and tourism management & marketing for many years, coordinating sales of destinations with tour operators worldwide.

Since February 2020, Horizon Development, in its small contribution to alleviate the COVID crisis, has dedicated itself to thorough research on COVID-19 and conducted more than 20 voluntary free online training for companies, manufacturing units, stores and families. The training focused on preparedness, confinement & decontamination procedures, helping those people to manage the COVID threat with method, discipline, drills and without panic.

In mid-April 2020, Horizon Development conveyed a panel of 16 international experts (Harvard Medical School, Johnson&Johnson, John Hopkins, OSHA, Green Key, Swissotel) on a two-day video seminar “COVID response: Particularities and challenges for the travel and tourism industry in 2020”. The panel experts called upon the need for a certification system for the travel & hospitality industry and provided the fundamentals of the research data, the methodology, and the protocols that are today behind the Clean&Care Certification system, independently from the local health board recommendations. Because health board recommendations to the tourism industry can vary greatly from one country to another, the C&C audit protocols and recommendations from various health boards therefore keep competing each other and improving the central C&C protocols in a dynamic way.
