Geometric Foundations of Gravity in Tartu

Geometric Foundations of Gravity in Tartu Series of conferences hosted by the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of University of Tartu, Estonia

Geometric Foundations of Gravity in Tartu, Teleparallel Gravity Workshop in Tartu and Metric Affine Frameworks for Gravity are a series conference dedicated to the geometric foundations of gravity theories, the study of teleparallel and metric affine theories of gravity. So far the series consisted of seven meetings
- Geomgrav 2017
- Telegrav 2018
- Geomgrav 2019
- Telegrav 2020
- TeleWorSe 2021
-

Geomgrav 2021
- MaffGrav 2022

An eighth one is about to happen
- Geomgrav 2023

The conferences take place in Tartu, Estonia. The aim of these conferences is to gather experts on various alternative and modified approaches to gravity, as well as observations. The main topics include:

- Extensions of General Relativity (metric affine gravity, Poincare gauge gravity, scalar/vector/tensor gravity, teleparallel gravity, massive gravity, bi-metric gravity, …)
- Astrophysics in Extended Gravity (black holes, ordinary/neutron/boson/grava stars, gravitational waves, strings, wormholes, binary systems, …)
- Cosmology in Extended Gravity (dynamical system analysis, observations and constraints, dark energy, dark matter, inflation, early universe, galaxies, …)
- Beyond Lorentzian Geometry in Classical and Quantum Gravity (doubly/deformed relativity, standard model extension, Hamilton geometry, Finsler geometry, …). The conferences are organized by the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics, University of Tartu.

This week we started an advanced course on the theories of gravity in a MOOC format, as the lectures take place in a hybrid classroom+online form and are recorded for later viewing. The topics focus upon the logic behind constructing a theory and checking its characteristics like the number of degrees of freedom and presence or absence of various instabilities. The specialized aspect of the course is to introduce non-Riemannian (metric-affine) geometry and some important theories based on it. More information about the schedule and how to join can be found at

The advanced lecture course "Selected topics in the theories of gravity" is given once in several years, with the focus changing each time according to the interests of the staff and students. While last year the course focused on treating astrophysical objects like black holes and stars in differen...
