An architectural landmark in Riyadh, KSA, the Al Khaimah Social and Civic Hub reinterprets the essence of the Arabic tent as a contemporary architectural statement. Its sweeping tensile roof structure is inspired by the tent’s role as a place of gathering, shelter, and identity, symbolizing hospitality and cultural continuity while projecting a bold and futuristic presence. The design embraces the core principles of openness, shading, and adaptability found in the traditional tent, translating them into a modern language that harmonizes with Riyadh’s desert landscape.
The building’s terraces, reflective water features, and lush landscaping extend the idea of the oasis, softening the arid surroundings and creating welcoming thresholds. Expansive glass façades dissolve the boundaries between inside and outside, flooding interiors with natural light while framing dramatic views of the skyline and horizon. This fluid relationship between structure and landscape reinforces the tent’s original spirit as a space where community and nature converge.
Beyond its iconic form, Al Khaimah aspires to become a vibrant civic and social hub rather than a conventional sales center. Its program hosts offices for sales, banks, and services while integrating a Food & Beverage zone with cafés and restaurants that encourage gathering and dialogue. An open park, designed as an urban oasis, provides a green refuge accessible to all, while multi-purpose spaces accommodate exhibitions, legacy displays, lounges, and immersive experiences.
