Robotics Club is the place where you don't only apply what you learn in class in a more expanded way, but also you will learn what is not in the curriculum . You learn simple engineering skills and learn more about combining mechanical and electronic tools to form simple yet amazing robots. It is the best place to unleash your ideas and share with other people your passion. Yes it is the geeks and nerds club in the university but other people are welcome to join too :p :p ! Can Machines Hold Us? Attachment, Connection, and Illusion in the Age of AI | dr_nourzaki

As artificial intelligence becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, our interactions with technology are beginning to resemble relationships. From AI companions and social robots to voice assistants and chatbots, these systems can listen, respond, and simulate care in ways that feel deeply human.

This keynote explores what happens when our fundamental need for attachment and connection meets technologies that can mimic emotional responsiveness without truly experiencing it. Can we form attachment to AI? And how might these interactions shape our expectations of real relationships?

Drawing on attachment theory and contemporary examples, the talk examines both the potential benefits and the deeper risks of AI-mediated connection, especially for vulnerable populations such as children and the elderly. Ultimately, it invites the audience to reflect on a central question: If something responds like it cares, does it matter if it doesn’t? And what might that mean for the future of human relationships?

Meet our Speakers and get to know more about their impact:

Dr. Nour Zaki, PhD., is an assistant professor of developmental psychology at The American University in Cairo (AUC). She is also the director of the Attachment Lab at AUC, the first research hub using the gold-standard observational methodology of child attachment research in the Arab world. Her research primarily focuses on the impact of childhood attachment relationships on later adult development outcomes as well as the intergenerational transmission of attachment relationships.

Zaki is the regional representative of the International Society for Interpersonal Acceptance-Rejection (ISIPAR) in North Africa and the Middle East, and she is a registered facilitator of both the Circle of Security Parenting (COSP) program from Circle of Security International (COSI), and the Bringing Baby Home (BBH) program from the Gottman Institute.

Dr. Yehea Ismail is Chair and Professor of Electronics and Communications Engineering at AUC and Director of the Nanoelectronics and Devices Center. A globally recognised researcher and IEEE Fellow, his work has shaped advancements in VLSI systems, high-performance circuits, and semiconductor technologies.
