Earlier this month Proteinea held our annual Iftar at The Greek Campus in Cairo! Every year we come together with our team, advisors, investors and everyone else who contributes in our journey, to celebrate our accomplishments and look forward to future goals.

This year was especially significant as we celebrated a landmark 2024 for Proteinea where we hit several major milestones, thank you to everyone who attended and everyone who is part of & following our journey.

We are thrilled to be Introducing Ankh ☥ : An optimized general-purpose protein language model (PLM) surpassing the state-of-the-art performance with as little as 10% of the number of parameters, heavily benchmarked on a variety of principal structure and function tasks, from fitness to contact prediction, and tested for protein generation.
It can also produce a biologically meaningful library of proteins -- from just a single sequence!

Ankh is produced as a result of 20 meticulously engineered pre-training experiments, to optimize the nuts and bolts of the transformer architecture for the protein world: from masking strategies to encoder-decoder layers ratio -- all while maintaining the smallest possible parameter count!

Experimenting with Ankh, we found it can trivially produce state-of-the-art results on protein engineering tasks. We intend to use it to guide protein engineering at Proteinea, along with our other Protein Engineering Platform modalities.

Ankh was trained on Google's TPUv4. Thanks to Google Cloud's generous fund, we are able to release the code and model weights free for academic and non-commercial use cases.
