Director of GFC, Mr. Moussa, has been in the field of Green Tourism since the 80’s with his passion for the Egyptian desert. He has
collaborated with all parties involved to ensure that tours to the desert left nothing and took nothing to preserve the environment for generations to come. Moussa has partnered with more desert lovers to establish Desert Lodge, the award winning eco lodge, which receive the first award by DRV (German Tour Operators) as the best Environment Friendly Lodge around the world for the year 2007. This was the first time Egypt wins such an award which put Egypt on the map of green tourism. The lodge has been established as a replica of the Islamic architecture of the nearby El Qasr village which is a historical site in the same district. It is not only green architecture that made it win the award, but also because each and every practice in the building of desert lodge has been green. The people who worked in the construction were local labor, using local material and local handicrafts. After the construction was completed, local staff has been appointed and trained to ensure eco practice in their daily activities. Local produce has been used for the food and beverage at the lodge. Staff has participated in an annual village cleaning day and raising awareness of eco practices for villagers. Water served used eco friendly procedures to purify from a nearby well and encouraged lodgers to use. Waste of the lodge is being recycled and agreement with local government has been made to handle the recycled waste. The same lodge, Desert Lodge, has recently won a second award in Nov 2011 from Paris Hospitality Award and has been feature in the book “ Green Places to stay “ and another book listing “ Exotic Green Lodges “
Mr. Moussa has also been selected as the head of EDK, Egyptian Desert Keepers, which is a committee within the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism responsible for eco practices in the Egyptian desert. The committee has put together guidelines for green practices to be followed by all tour operators in the Egyptian Deserts and has issued a brochure in that regard. He has received many awards for his efforts in eco and green tourism and has been invited to share in The Arab Tourism Organization Conference in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia, May 2010) to demonstrate his case study on green environments & Eco architecture. Now a day he has decided to put all his expertise and his team to the benefit of Egypt and the Arab Countries by establishing Green Focus and Consultancy
(GFC) to make a wider contribution on Green Practices in the Arab World in General and in Egypt in particular. His vision of collaboration with producers of state of the art & modern technologies in the field of green tourism & societies to provide solutions that will help the countries and their people to benefit from the green practices not only in tourism but in other fields as well such as industrial, agricultural and real estate.
