Bardzo dziękujemy członkom jury oraz internautom, którzy głosowali na nasz projekt w konkursie Archeologiczne Sensacje 2025, zorganizowanym przez Archeologia Żywa.

Już sam fakt, że nasza publikacja została zauważona, był dla nas ogromnym wyróżnieniem - zwłaszcza że konkurowaliśmy z tyloma znakomitymi przedsięwzięciami.

Tym milej nam poinformować, że zajęliśmy 3. miejsce w kategorii „Najlepsza premiera dziedzictwa” z projektem „Gebelein: cyfrowa rekonstrukcja grobowca nomarchy Iniego”, w którym za pomocą narzędzi cyfrowych przywróciliśmy do badań zaginiony grobowiec sprzed 4 tysięcy lat.

Dr Wojciech Ejsmond and Dr Aneta Skalec had the pleasure of presenting their talk “In the Shadow of Thebes: Gebelein and the Lives of Ordinary Egyptians” at Tebes Hotel in Luxor yesterday.

Nestled between Thebes and Aswan, the Gebelein micro-region preserves one of the most continuous archaeological records in Egypt—from Palaeolithic camps to Medieval mausolea. Yet, for decades, this extraordinary place has remained in the shadow of Egypt’s more famous centres. Early Egyptology, focused on monumental temples and elite tombs, largely overlooked Gebelein’s quieter but equally revealing story: the daily lives of ordinary people, local religious practices, and traces of ethnic diversity in a provincial landscape. Today, as research turns toward these more human dimensions of the past, Gebelein stands out as a vital key to understanding how ancient Egyptians beyond the royal courts and temple walls lived, worshipped, and identified themselves. The talk presented the history of the area and some of the results of the current research project, like the town of Pathyris and the local temple of Hathor.

It was great to see so many friends and members of archaeological missions working in Thebes! Thank you all for coming! And thank you Thebes Hotel for hosting the lecture!
