A blowout preventer (BOP) is a crucial safety device used in oil and gas drilling operations to prevent uncontrolled release of hydrocarbons (oil and gas) from a well.
It consists of several components;
📍 Annular Preventer:
This is a flexible rubber-like doughnut-shaped seal that can close around the drill pipe or casing, effectively sealing off the wellbore.
📍 Ram Preventers:
These are massive hydraulic or manual rams that can close and seal the wellbore by pushing against the sides of the drill pipe or casing.
They come in two types: blind rams, which completely seal the well, and shear rams, which can cut and seal the drill pipe in case of an emergency.
