QSTAR es un Centro de Entrenamiento Internacional de Pilotos de ROV miembro del IMCA (International Marine Contractor Association) formando parte en la División de ROV y Sistemas Controlados a Distancia establecido en Europa y África. QSTAR ROV TRAINING CENTER es pionera en impartir estudios de nuevas tecnologías a nivel nacional y reconocida internacionalmente. En 2014 , QSTAR (representada por su Director General, el Sr. José Mª Sepúlveda) fue elegido como miembro del IMCA ROV TSG ( Grupo de Formación de ROV). El TSG esta formado por directivos de empresas líderes miembros de IMCA como Fugro, Bibby, i-Tech 7, Saipem, MTCS, The Underwater Center, School of Ocean and Technology, SMD, SAAB Seaeye, Schilling QSTAR y FORUM. Durante estos años e comité ha estado trabajando en la elaboración de nuevos documentos y directrices que facilitará un enfoque más global para el desarrollo de la formación de ROV. Second week in the books.

Our ROV Pilot Technician group kept building on week one: hydraulics theory and practice, Corning fiber optic field termination, hands-on RB50 maintenance, serial comms, hours in the simulator, and a deep dive into the Falcon manual — surface-to-ROV architecture, power, telemetry, video, all mapped out on the board.

From the workshop bench to the simulator room, theory into practice, every single day.

Second week down. Onto week three.

First dive day.

Our ROV Pilot Technician students got hands-on with the EPRONS RB50 for the first time — starting the way every real operation starts: with a full pre-dive checklist. No ROV goes in the water until it's been fully checked.

Then straight into the tank. First time lowering the ROV in, first time on the controls, first movements underwater — the exact moment training turns into practice.

And once it's back out: post-dive maintenance, checked and logged, the same way it'll be done on every job after this one.

Pre-dive. Tank test. Post-dive. That's the standard from day one.

Before any dive, the camera goes through this first.

This week at the centre: one of our instructors opens up the Seamor Chinook to check the camera, wire by wire. Every connection tested by hand before it gets the green light.

It's not a small detail: without a clean feed, the pilot is flying blind. That's why no ROV goes underwater without passing this check first.

That's HANDS-ON at QSTAR: maintenance, pre-dive checklists, and protocols — done right, every time.

A tether doesn't come finished. It's built.

This week at the centre: splicing and resin-potting the BlueROV2 cable we're assembling from zero. Every colored wire, soldered one by one. Every splice, sealed with resin so not a single drop of water gets in.

It looks like a small detail. It isn't: that joint is what keeps the signal clean every time the vehicle goes down.

That's HANDS-ON training at QSTAR: you don't watch, you do.

Building a BlueROV2 from zero. This step: fitting the E-Pod into the frame — every connector aligned by hand, zero play tolerance. 🔧

This is a real, fully functional ROV, built to operational spec. Same precision standards as a working unit. ⚙️

E-Pod Assembly: BlueROV2 From Zero ⚙️

Our internship students are building this BlueROV2 from the ground up, starting with the e-pod, the watertight enclosure that houses and protects every critical connection onboard. Each wire, each solder point, each connector is placed and tested by hand before the unit ever gets sealed.

This is the level of technical detail we train for: understanding what's inside the ROV, not just how to fly it. By the time these students finish, they've assembled the vehicle they'll later pilot, connector by connector.

ROV Pilot tech trainees testing a CHASING M2 R9V from our mother company QSTAR SUBSEA SOLUTIONS. This task includes toolbox, reading manuals to make a pre/post dive chech list for this rov model, connection, setups, calibrations and tomorrow test tank trials.
