The Government introduced a series of temporary tax measures through Royal Decree-Law 7/2026 to help reduce the impact of rising energy prices on households.

These measures included reductions in VAT and the Special Electricity Tax. However, from invoices issued from 1 June onwards, some of these taxes will return to their usual rates.

📢 Update on Energy Cost Relief Measures in Spain

On March 20, 2026, Royal Decree-Law 7/2026 was published, approving the Comprehensive Response Plan to the Middle East Crisis.

Here’s a quick summary of the key tax measures introduced (effective from March 21 to June 30, 2026), aimed at reducing gas and electricity costs:

🔹 VAT on electricity bills reduced to 10% for consumers with contracted power up to 10 kW
🔹 VAT on natural gas bills reduced to 10%
🔹 Electricity Tax (IEE) reduced from 5.11% to 0.5% (the minimum allowed under EU regulations)
🔹 Hydrocarbons Tax (IEH) on natural gas reduced from €2.34/MWh to €1.08/MWh (general rate for non-professional use)
🔹 Tax on the Value of Electricity Production (IVPEE), normally set at 7%, remains suspended until June 30

⚡ These measures have a direct impact on customers’ energy bills, so it’s important to consider them in your commercial activities and customer communications.
