🐄 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝘁-𝗮𝗻𝗱-𝗠𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗪𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗽𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝗴𝗵𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗴𝗻𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱

On 6 November 2025, the Western Cape Veterinary Services (South Africa) confirmed a case of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD) on a farm near Gouda in the Western Cape. The affected property and surrounding farms within a 10 km radius have been placed under quarantine, and movement of cloven-hoofed animals is under strict control.

FMD is highly contagious among cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. Although it poses no direct risk to humans, the economic and trade impact for livestock industries is substantial.
