After more than a decade in business and seven years since the first website, we're so excited to announce our new website www.planetenergynow.com thanks to the amazing Danilo Krahl. It's updated with the work we've been doing the past 10 years, our evolution and our projects, as well as integrating information about Holistic Management and of course Curly Creek Ranch. We're very excited to share our progress with the new lithium ion battery bank we installed last month.

We had a couple of weeks of testing to make sure we had the settings right so they worked best within our existing system, which once established saw two full days without any generator use...a first for us! That was followed by eight days of snow and several weeks of heavy rain, bringing nearly 500mm of precipitation in 20 days, which meant little solar radiation as well.

But we're exceptionally pleased to show that we've now gone nine days (hopefully 10-12 based on the weather predictions) without any generator use at all. You can see on the very sunny days we boosted our consumption extensively to take advantage of the free resource. Not bad at all considering we've been experiencing winter-like conditions since they were installed! Great timing too as petrol prices are soaring.

So excited about our new lithium ion battery bank that is now up and running. With this investment, replacing the gel batteries we had before with 6x more energy storage, we'll be 99%+ powered by renewable energy. We were already 90% but this upgrade will take us the rest of the way and amortised in just a year (or less, considering how quickly oil prices are rising).

We didn't mean for the new installation to line up with but it's a nice coincidence!

Si estáis interesados en lo que hacemos, porqué lo hacemos y cómo vosotros también podéis hacer para mejorarlo, echa un vistazo a este reportaje que hizo un estudiante de la Universidad de Navarra. Siempre estamos abiertos para colaborar con estudiantes, sea en temas tecnológicos para sus proyectos de fin de carrera o en comunicaciones cómo está ejemplo. Tenemos claro que si vamos a cambiar el mundo, no lo podemos hacer sólos!

Ya está! Eso es el agua que sale del fase 1 de nuestro sistema de biogás, tratando los aguas negras de la casa. Los resultados del laboratoria muestra que está a 80% DEBAJO de los máximos permitidos para veterlos al río, pues estámos más que ánimados. Fase 2 utilizado los residuos de los caballos para producir el biogás en sí está previsto para el verano. And there it is! That's the water that comes out of phase 1 of our biogas system, cleaning wastewater from the house. We're at 80% BELOW the maximum levels allowed by the Spanish government to release the water into the watershed, so we're very pleased! Phase 2 to produce biogas from the household wastewater as well as horse manure expected this summer, so watch this space! It's true! At long last, we've installed 3.3 kW of solar panels at Curly Creek Ranch and what a huge difference it's making already. During daylight hours we aren't needing the generator at all, so with the heat currently supplied via the fireplace, we're 100% renewable energy during the day, even showers. Such a huge milestone for us and we're very proud. Solar, wind, solid biomass, batteries and smart grid system all installed, as well as wastewater treatment (more on that to follow). This summer we'll finish up the biogas and we'll be good to go!
