Today’s World Day for Safety and Health at Work reminds us that psychosocial risks deserve the same prevention mindset as physical hazards.

To mark the day, we’re inviting teams across Ahlstrom to “Take 2 minutes” for a simple check-in on how we’re doing and how we can support each other. We’re applying our familiar STOP – THINK – CARE habit—used to support physical safety—to psychosocial safety too.

At Ahlstrom, safety is part of how we work, communicate, and support each other every day. Our psychosocial work environment is shaped by how work is planned and led, and by the everyday ways we collaborate, from workload and pace to clarity, flexibility, and support.

We’re also strengthening leadership capabilities that support a safe and healthy work environment. For example, in 2025, the Turin and Brignoud sites launched structured leadership workshops and coaching programs grounded in applied neuroscience and psychosociology.

This focus goes hand in hand with our broader safety culture and continuous improvement, contributing to a record safety performance in 2025, with a 20% reduction in Total Recordable Incidents Rate.

And to everyone beyond Ahlstrom, join us! Take 2 minutes for psychosocial safety, at work or at home, and check in with the people around you.

How do you deliver fiber-based food packaging without losing critical barrier performance? That’s the challenge our Senior Scientist Erkki Laiti works on every day.

Erkki helps develop more sustainable alternatives to packaging made from petrol-based plastic and aluminum. That means delivering resistance to both water v***r and oxygen, despite the conflicting chemistries that support each barrier.

For Erkki, the challenge of finding the best paper-coating combination to solve this puzzle is a key motivator. But even more so is the knowledge that he’s supporting customers to reduce their dependence on fossil-based materials.

Hear more from Erkki below – and look out for more from our Innovators at Work!

“Everyone is concerned about sustainability, and we have to innovate to maintain a sustainable world.”

That’s the message that Audrey Martignat, a Product Development Engineer for our Beverage & Casing Business Unit, wants to share.

Audrey helps develop biobased papers that provide an alternative to materials containing oil-based plastic fibers, for products like coffee pods and tea bags. She works to ensure these materials offer the same strength, durability, and heat-sealability as traditional alternatives.

Audrey is committed to helping our customers meet growing expectations for home-compostable solutions. In turn, this helps people make more sustainable choices with every cup they make.

Growers are increasingly seeking alternatives to traditional plastic mulch. But these alternatives must meet strict standards for both performance and sustainability.

Ahlstrom SoilProtect™ can help address this challenge. This bio-based mulch is designed to meet OK Compost HOME compostability standards, breaking down naturally in soil. At the same time, it also supports soil health and crop yields.

As environmental, regulatory, and performance demands intensify, SoilProtect™ provides a future ready solution. 🌱✔️

hadn’t yet been established when Ahlstrom was founded 175 years ago. But from the beginning, women at our company have demonstrated what Give to Gain means.

This goes right back to Eva Ahlström, one of Europe’s first female industrialists. Not only did Eva shape our business, she also championed social progress, investing in access to culture, healthcare, and education in Ahlstrom’s local communities.

Today, Eva’s influence lives on:

-Our talented female innovators continue to develop sustainable specialty materials that improve the lives of people around the world.

-Ahlström Collective Impact invests in education for children everywhere, mobilizing €750,000 for UNICEF in 2025.

-We’re committed to building a culture where everyone can thrive – reflected in our JUMP program for young talent, and the fact that 30% of our senior leaders are women.

There is always more work to do, and no one person can do it alone. So, thank you to everyone who keeps us moving in the right direction, today and every day. Giving to gain. In the moment, for the future.

How do you turn cutting-edge fiber expertise into the sustainable solutions of tomorrow? 💡

Meet Adrien Trousse, one of the innovators behind our pilot capabilities and breakthrough developments at Ahlstrom.

Adrien is the Head of Fiber Expertise and Pilot Facilities, leading a team that supports product development and pilot capabilities across the company. One example is their work in the field of lab and life sciences, where they contribute to next generation DNA collection solutions like GenSaver™, a paper‑based card used to collect DNA samples, particularly in forensics.

For Adrien, sustainability and innovation go hand in hand and help companies flourish in the long term. 🌱

High crop yields shouldn’t have to come with increased labor and plastic waste. While traditional plastic mulch requires retrieval and disposal, Ahlstrom SoilProtect™ offers a high-performance, fiber-based alternative.

Field results for SoilProtect™ demonstrate a 10–15% higher marketable yield than with plastic films. And, because this mulch is designed to biodegrade in soil, no retrieval is needed at the end of the crop season.

For growers seeking productivity, sustainability, and operational efficiency, SoilProtect™ sets a new benchmark in mulch performance. 🌱📈

Soil health is foundational to crop performance, but fluctuating temperatures and conditions continue to challenge growers.

Ahlstrom SoilProtect™ supports a more consistent soil environment. Its fiber-based structure helps to moderate soil temperature, promoting healthy growth and stronger crop resilience.

As growers navigate shifting climate patterns and rising agronomic pressures, Ahlstrom SoilProtect™ offers a next-generation solution that strengthens crop performance from the ground up. 🌾

We’re proudly participating in the UN Global Compact Network Finland’s Business & Human Rights (BHR) Accelerator program this year.

All businesses have a responsibility to advance human rights throughout operations, supply chains, and beyond. Participating in the BHR Accelerator represents another step forward in strengthening and systematizing these processes at Ahlstrom, building on the work we are already doing.

During the program, we will sharpen our identification of human rights risks and impacts, enhance our action plans to address them, and further strengthen and mature our existing Human Rights Due Diligence process.

We’re looking forward to sharing insights with our 20 other peer companies – and to continuing to operate responsibly while creating long-term value for all.
