Meet our Creative Director and Lead Designer, Jouko Järvisalo.
Alongside his design practice, Järvisalo has contributed significantly to the next generation of creators through his teaching at Aalto University’s School of Art and Design. His work has received numerous awards in Finland and internationally, and his pieces are included in the permanent collections of renowned institutions such as Designmuseo (Helsinki), The Art Institute of Chicago, Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, and The Icelandic Museum of Design and Applied Art in Reykjavik.
Järvisalo’s design philosophy beautifully captures the poetic balance between material, craft, and thought:
“Lightness and sensibility to silence are my aim. Design is the union of mind and matter. A piece of furniture is created when thinking meets with the material used, as a result of the pondering that takes place in the middle ground between handiwork and the machine.”
