Design tools have changed, again. But is the shift bigger this time?

I’ve had the pleasure of working with two long-term clients for years now. When the projects started, AI tools already existed, but they weren’t really part of the process. In our eyes, they were gimmicks that couldn’t even count the R’s in “strawberry”.

A few weeks ago, we had the pleasure of hosting Kluuvi Group’s AI Afternoon at our new Tampere office. It was a great afternoon that brought together IT and business leaders to discuss how AI and data are shaping software development and business.

A massive “Thank you!” to our four speakers for their concrete insights:

Turkka Keskinen (CIO, UPM) shared how UPM steers AI adoption and makes sure it delivers real benefits. He also talked about his personal views on the future of AI.

Nikolas Kohvakka (Kodan) demonstrated how to build features in hours, not days. He walked us through a live, AI-powered development process, in which a full-stack geolocation feature was designed, built, tested, and documented.

Harri Julmala (Bruvo) reminded us that a solid data foundation is non-negotiable. He emphasized the importance of solving actual business problems rather than chasing technology, noting that clean data and scalability are the real bottlenecks, not the AI models themselves.

Miika Kankare (Kanto Company) wrapped up with a sharp presentation on AI governance and how to manage your “agent armies” safely. He highlighted the absolute necessity of giving agents only the minimum access rights they need and using a central platform for auditability.

A couple of days ago, 18 brilliant young entrepreneurs (Pikkuyrittäjät) visited our Kodan office in Tampere 💡

We kicked off with a great discussion about what entrepreneurship means to them. The very first answer? "Making money." Not a bad answer at all!

From there, we moved on to software development and how software consulting creates value (and revenue). Naturally, we used Claude to vibe-code two mobile apps for teachers on the spot: "Noise Robot" and "Who Answers?"

Best realization of the day: 100% of these young entrepreneurs had already used software that Kodan has helped build.

LokiTime digitalises key management for organisations, tracking who holds which physical keys, laptops, phones, and other loanable assets, and for how long. Kodan has been LokiTime's development partner since 2019, rebuilding the platform from the ground up and continuing to develop it as the product and its customer base have grown.

Yesterday, we hosted a "Kluuvi Group AI Afternoon" at our offices at Vilhonkatu 5, and the house was packed!

Three outstanding sessions took us from AI hype to practical reality:

🔧 Nikolas Kohvakka (Kodan) walked us through a live demo of how AI agents can be woven into every stage of software development, from requirements all the way to quality assurance.

🏗️ Tommi Jalkanen (Bruvo) dove into the technical foundations, demonstrating how a layered architecture approach helps organizations avoid the most common AI pitfalls.

🔒 Miika Kankare (Kanto Company) tackled AI Governance, explaining how to manage risk and why a platform mindset is the key to a sustainable AI development.

A huge "Thank you!" to everyone who joined us! A special thanks also goes to our speakers, Nikolas, Tommi, and Miika, for making the presentations so concrete and actionable.

This is Antti, Kodan's newest software developer. Antti will be working in our Skaala unit, which focuses on small-scale development and maintenance.

Antti has been working as a full-stack software developer for more than 10 years, and his experience ranges from industrial systems to location services.

Outside of work, Antti is into all kinds of sports and fitness: beach volleyball, padel, weight training, and jogging. When he is not exercising, he likes to do other outdoor activities (either on a bike or skis) and lightweight subsistence farming.

Kodan designed and built a new digital ticketing and booking platform, integrated directly into the PowerPark website.

The platform’s first real test came during PowerPark’s Black Friday campaign. Sales increased by 14% compared to the previous year, and the system handled hundreds of transactions within minutes without performance issues.

Diana shares a bit about herself in her own words:

"I’ve mostly worked with React and JavaScript, along with native and React Native mobile development, both in-house and as a consultant across projects of varying complexity. I especially enjoy the problem solving side of my work, designing systems, handling integrations, and working closely with clients to find practical solutions.

Outside of software, I like trying new things across different areas. Lately, I’ve been into quad roller skating (still practicing downhill, it’s tricky), staying active with BodyPump and other at-home workouts, and kayaking in the summer."
