UNESCO World Heritage in Jyväskylä

This summer brought exciting news for Finnish architecture: the Aalto Works series, comprising 13 sites by Alvar, Aino and Elissa Aalto, was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List!

One of the sites is the Muuratsalo Experimental House, for which we at INARO prepared a garden historical survey and a management and development plan (2024–25). We also took the UNESCO World Heritage nomination requirements into account in our reference plan for the infill development of the University of Jyväskylä campus.

Gabled Residential Trio Completed in Oulunkylä

The HEKA Mestarintie 18 and HASO Käskynhaltijantie 48 residential buildings were completed in Oulunkylä at the end of June. The ensemble is carefully integrated into its surroundings through its pitched roofscape, brick-toned façades, and rhythmic window pattern. Subtle variations in brick hues and jointing lend each building a distinct identity. The development provides 47 municipal rental apartments and 78 right-of-occupancy dwellings.

First Building Permit Submitted for Melkinlaituri Block

The first projects in the block, Merikruunu and Aaltokruunu, will bring 49 homes to the waterfront, including loft apartments and stunning sea views. Based on the winning design of last year’s invited architectural competition organized by Hausia, the block will be built in a prime location alongside Naurunpuisto Park in Jätkäsaari.

Kid-approved architecture

A conversation between an architect and two little Oulunkylä kids:
– Hey, is that building like… already done? What even is it?
– Yeah, it’s a parking garage for people living around here. Just wrapped up. And uh—I’m actually the architect who made it.
– No way! Then you gotta be a good architect, ’cause that thing looks awesome!

You don’t get compliments this real and unfiltered too often. Anyway—the Teininrinne parking garage is finished now. Can’t wait to see it once the climbing plants start going wild!
