💫 Optics and Photonics Days 2026: Strengthening Finland’s Role in the Global Photonics Community!
With 432 participants and 48 exhibitors in Jyväskylä, OPD reinforced its position as the largest annual photonics event in the Nordics. Over three days, researchers, companies, students, and international partners shared insights, built new connections, and explored the latest developments in optics and photonics.

The strong international participation and vibrant discussions highlighted the growing impact of Finland’s photonics ecosystem and the importance of collaboration in driving innovation forward.

European photonics is at a turning point – Join the Interactive Session at OPD2026 on Tuesday 26.5. 🌟

At OPD2026, the interactive session “European Photonics is at a Turning Point” with EPIC - EUROPEAN PHOTONICS INDUSTRY CONSORTIUM, PhotonicSweden and Photonics Finland will address some of the most pressing questions facing the industry today: Europe’s competitiveness, strategic investments, technological sovereignty, and the future of deep tech ecosystems.

Taking place today, Saturday the 16th of May, with the theme 'Light For A Sustainable Future' – the International Day of Light is a global initiative that provides an annual focal point for the continued appreciation of light and the role it plays in science, culture and art, education, and sustainable development, and in fields as diverse as medicine, communications, and energy.

🌐 Administered by UNESCO, the initiative seeks to foster international scientific cooperation and leverage light-based technologies to promote peace and societal well-being worldwide. Photonics Finland is proud to represent the Finnish photonics academia and industry in building a better future made with light!

Thuan Nguyen has started with Photonics Finland as an intern. Thuan is studying international business at Karelia University of Applied Sciences and is eager to gain some practical worklife experience in Finland.

Thuan will bring valuable experience in finance and international accounting to support our financial tracking and reporting processes, project financial monitoring practices and budgeting.

The Optics & Photonics Days (OPD) is Finland’s key annual meeting point for the international photonics community – bringing together researchers, industry, and partners to connect and collaborate.
One of the highlights of the event is the OPD Dinner, a cherished tradition and an essential networking opportunity. This year in Jyväskylä, the evening includes a scenic boat ride to Juurikkasaari and a three-course dinner in a unique setting.

The program features the Photonics Company of the Year announcement, presentations from Gold Sponsors Northlab Photonics AB and Cheos Oy, live music by Whipping Post – a group of academics playing rock tunes with progressive undertones and influences from 70's, and an open “Optical Jam Session” offering anyone the opportunity to step on the stage.
