Biogas upgrading unit for Latvian SIA ZAAO commissioned 🤝🔥

Membrane technology-based biogas upgrading unit, BIOupgrade, together with a gas filling station and a high pressure storage for SIA ZAAO in Latvia, have now been officially commissioned and handed over to the customer.

Over recent weeks, Biovoima’s project and commissioning team completed final on‑site works, ran performance tests, and trained the plant operators — ensuring a smooth transition into full operation.

The collaboration continues beyond handover, as our service and maintenance team BIOservice will provide scheduled maintenance and lifecycle support to secure high availability, reliability, efficiency, and safety.

This new biomethane production and refueling concept will reduce both emissions and operating costs of SIA ZAAO, as waste collection trucks can now refuel directly on‑site. The investment strengthens SIA ZAAO’s goals in environmental sustainability, operational efficiency, and energy self‑sufficiency.

✅ Voss Biomethane Plant Successfully Commissioned

The Voss biomethane production plant in Norway has been officially commissioned following a successful Site Acceptance Test (SAT), confirming stable and reliable operation. This milestone marks the start of a one‑year trial period for the project, which has been nearly three years in the making.

Invested in and operated by BIR AS, the plant is the world’s first BREEAM‑certified biogas plant, converting local biowaste and livestock manure into clean biomethane for transport and industrial use in the Bergen region.

Biovoima´s Project Manager Tero Kemppi sees the project highlights strong collaboration between all stakeholders and demonstrates Biovoima’s role as a technology integrator, delivering efficient, end‑to‑end biomethane solutions tailored also for demanding Nordic conditions. 🌱⚡

Biogas flare and compressor station for Frevar KF in Fredrikstad, Norway👏🔥

Biovoima delivers a safety solution - a biogas and biomethane flare, aswell as a gas compressor station for FREVAR KF biogas plant in Fredrikstad, Norway.

The solutions are needed for both renewing the existing equipment and the expansion of production of the Frevar biogas plant. The flare and the compressor station will be commissioned by Biovoima by the end of Q2 in 2026. Frevar has facilities for waste treatment, drinking water production, and wastewater purification.

Frevar produces about 4 million m³ of raw biogas annually in Fredrikstad plant from food waste and sewage sludge by receiving food waste from the food industry and households, and the sludge fraction comes from treating the wastewater of residents in the municipality of Fredrikstad. Biogas yields approximately 2.5 million m³ of upgraded biogas of vehicle fuel quality, biomethane.
