Can you record an entire track using just one type of microphone—without the mix sounding like a single repetitive signature? 🎙️

Producer Boris Carloff put this to the test at his world-class Soundevice Studio in Prague—a facility packed with virtually any high-end and vintage microphone you can think of. Yet, he tracked an entire session—drums, double bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and lead vocals—exclusively using Sandhill ribbon microphones.

The impressive part isn’t just that it works; it’s how natural the final mix sounds. Because of their neutral response and transparent top end, stacking multiple Sandhill tracks doesn't build up heavy, unnatural "mic character". The mix stays open, precise, and organic.

It’s a clear showcase of just how versatile these microphones are across vastly different acoustic sources—from delicate acoustic instruments to powerful drums and lead vocals.

This session is a few years old now, but the sonic result is just as relevant today.

Head over to YouTube to watch the video and grab the multitrack audio stems in the description to hear the raw channels in your own DAW! 👇

Having access to our very own anechoic chamber paired with superb measurement equipment isn't standard practice for a boutique microphone builder, but for us, it’s essential.

It takes away any guesswork and allows us to measure every microphone with precision.

End of an era.

Our Sandhill 6019A active ribbon mics took the stage with Eppu Normaali—arguably the biggest band in Finnish rock history—for their farewell show at Ratina Stadium.

Huge thanks to for making us an integral part of their workflow. Knowing our mics travel with them to every single gig—and were chosen to capture the drum sound for a historic night like this—means everything.

Thank you, , for five decades of unforgettable music and massive rock heritage. 🥁🇫🇮

Can you spot the Sandhill?

Roger Taylor of Queen introducing their new rosé in the studio. And right there on drum duty sits the 6011A.

Clearly a man of good taste—both in wine and microphones.

For over two years now, the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis has been relying on Sandhill 6019A microphones on the road.

Ribbon mics are rarely associated with heavy touring, but we designed ours to handle the rigors of continuous stage use without compromising tone or reliability. Seeing them in heavy daily rotation with world-class performers is the ultimate test.

Big thanks to the JLCO crew for trusting Sandhill Audio night after night!
