Online course Cultural Heritage of Industrial Work
Cultural Heritage of Industrial Work is a joined online course for the students from the following universities: Jagiellonian University (Poland), University of Helsinki, and University of Oulu. The aim of the course is to introduce the history as well as both material and immaterial culture of the industrialization. The topics to be covered include e.g., industrialization, globalization, deindustrialization, political dimensions, workers’ communities and folklore, representations of industrial work in art and literature, and industrial heritage. The course consists of pre-recorded lectures, reading materials, online meetings, and a groupwork, in which students are encouraged to form interdisciplinary and international groups.
The course is open for up to 10 students from the University of Oulu. You can sign up for the course by sending an e-mail to Tiina Äikäs (tiina.aikas[at]oulu.fi) by 14 February 2021. The e-mail should include the following information: Name, nationality, social security number/date of birth, e-mail. The course credits can be transferred to archaeology or history but students from other fields are also welcome.
