DSII doctoral researchers took a well-deserved break from research and enjoyed a boat trip to Viikinsaari, a lake island just off the shores of Tampere, for a day of recreation in good company 🌞

🌿 We enjoyed a walk around the island, recharging in the island's serene and protected nature reserve area.

⛳The day also included some friendly competition in the form of a DSII mini golf tournament.

A warm thank you to everyone who joined DSII Summer Day!

DSII recently had the opportunity to visit Tammervoima’s waste power plant Tarastenjärvi, a key piece of energy infrastructure in Tampere region ♻️

Tammervoima plant offers an example of how society’s unavoidable waste can be transformed into useful thermal and electrical energy. The plant is jointly owned by Tampereen Energia and Pirkanmaan Jätehuolto.

➡️ Read DSII doctoral researcher Lauri Aaltonen's blog post of our visit: dsii.fi

"The visit offered a valuable peek into the operations of a waste-to-heat power plant. It served as a reminder that improving sustainability is not just developing new technologies, but also continuously improving the systems that already exist."

A big thanks to Tammervoima for having us!

DSII's most recent graduate Panagiotis Korkos shares how determination and being innovative guided him through his doctoral studies.

💡 The goal of Korkos’s research was to create a data driven method for detecting faults in the hydraulic pitch system of wind turbines, using only data coming from already installed systems in the wind turbines.
