Legend of the Seas has departed from the Meyer Turku shipyard, her destination being Cádiz, Spain, where preparations will continue. Legend will begin 7-night Mediterranean cruises on July 4. ⚓

The construction of Icon 6’s floating engine room unit (FERU) is now underway, with production having started at the Crist shipyard on 8 June. This marks the fourth FERU built in collaboration with Crist. ⚓

🗨️ “Crist is already a familiar shipyard to us, and we have successfully built a strong spirit of cooperation between the project organisations. In addition, we have an excellent site team at the shipyard to ensure that the FERU is built on schedule and with high quality,” says FERU Project Manager Marja Aartovaara.

🗨️ "The start of FERU production is a significant milestone in the project’s progress. A well-designed and carefully prepared start of production creates a strong foundation for the success of the entire project,” says Icon 6 Project Manager Kimmo Suutari.

🚢 Legend of the Seas has been officially welcomed into Royal Caribbean’s Icon class at a delivery ceremony held at the Meyer Turku shipyard!

More than 1,200 members of Legend's crew and partners gathered in the bow’s AquaDome to celebrate the milestone. During the event, ownership of the vessel was transferred from Meyer Turku to Royal Caribbean. ⚓

💬 “We have built on the experience gained from the previous vessels and further improved efficiency with the customer and our extensive partner network. The ship is an exceptional project in terms of both scale and technical complexity, requiring strong expertise and seamless collaboration across the entire maritime cluster,” said Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.

The new vessel is ready to begin operations on July 4 with seven-night Mediterranean cruises. In November 2026, the ship will reposition to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, to operate in the Caribbean during the winter season. 🌊

The impact of the Turku Shipyard is growing – all of Finland benefits.

The economic impact of the Meyer Turku shipyard continues to grow. A recent study conducted by the University of Turku shows that the shipyard’s economic effects extend beyond Southwest Finland and that Meyer Turku is an increasingly significant employer and driver of economic activity in Finland.

Meyer Turku’s revenue has approximately doubled since 2021, and its total employment impact in Finland has risen to more than 10,000 people. A broad supplier network has formed around the shipyard, comprising more than 1,100 mostly domestic companies. The share of domestic deliveries is around 70%, and the total value of deliveries reached approximately €1.45 billion in 2025.

🗨️ “The significance of the Turku shipyard for Finland is built on the network that has formed around it. The majority of a cruise ship’s value is created by our partners. Since the previous study, the shipyard’s revenue has doubled and employment has grown by around 2,000 people. The domestic share has increased from 60% to over 70% and will continue to grow as we move more production to Finland”, says Casimir Lindholm, CEO of Meyer Turku.

Icon 5’s LNG tanks were transported last month from Teuva to the Port of Kaskinen, where it continued its journey to the Crist shipyard, where it will be fitted into Icon 5’s floating engine room unit. ⚓️

Etsitkö uutta väylää työelämällesi? Miltä kuulostaisi maailman upeimpien risteilyalusten rakentaminen?

Haku Meyer Turun Laivanrakennusoppilaitoksen syksyn laivalevyseppähitsaaja- sekä laivaputki- ja koneasentajakoulutuksiin on nyt käynnissä. Hakuaika päättyy 7.8.2026.

Rekrykoulutukset järjestetään 28.9.2026–15.4.2027. Kuuden kuukauden koulutuksiin sisältyy teoriaopintojen lisäksi perustyövaiheiden harjoittelua oppilaitoksen harjoituspajoilla ja työharjoittelua telakan tuotannossa.
Käytännönläheisistä koulutuksista saat valmiudet työskennellä laivalevyseppähitsaajan tai putki- ja koneasentajan tehtävissä. Koulutuksen hyväksytysti suorittaneilla on mahdollisuus työllistyä telakalle.

Odotamme hakijoilta hyviä työelämätaitoja, motivaatiota ja innostunutta otetta oppia uutta. Koulutukset on tarkoitettu työttömille ja työttömyysuhan alaisille työnhakijoille, joilla on työvoimaviranomaisen toteama koulutustarve.

Meyer Turku panostaa tulevaisuuden laivanrakentajiin lahjoittamalla Aalto‑yliopistolle 800 000 euroa. Lahjoituksella Aalto perustaa viisivuotisen työelämäprofessuurin vauhdittamaan meritekniikan kehitystä ja turvaamaan alan osaamista Suomessa. Tuore lahjoitus on osa Meyer Turun laajaa oppilaitos- ja tutkimusyhteistyötä.

Aalto-yliopiston uusi monitieteinen laivasuunnittelun työelämäprofessuuri yhdistää meritekniikan ja insinööritieteet talouteen, rahoitukseen, sopimusoikeuteen sekä arkkitehtuuriin ja muotoiluun. Tavoitteena on kehittää laivanrakennusta kokonaisvaltaisesti sekä vahvistaa tutkimuksen ja teollisuuden välistä yhteistyötä. ⚓

🗨️ ”Panostukset tukevat uuden, monialaisesti pätevän laivanrakentajasukupolven kouluttamista ja vahvistavat suomalaisen meriteollisuuden kilpailukykyä pitkällä aikavälillä”, sanoo Meyer Turun toimitusjohtaja Casimir Lindholm.

The LNG tank transport for the fifth Icon-class vessel started on May 14, as the LNG tanks designed and manufactured in Finland departed from Teuva towards the port of Kaskinen and onward to the Crist shipyard in Poland. 🚢

The C-type bilobe LNG tank manufactured by West Welding is approximately 27 meters long, 15 meters wide and 14 meters high, weighing around 300 tonnes. The total transport weight is about 500 tonnes. The transport proceeded on schedule, and the tank continued by sea to Poland, where it will be installed in the floating engine room unit (FERU) of Icon 5. ⚓

🗨️ “The transport had been planned for about a year by a professional team, and the route was prepared with several necessary modifications, such as drive-over traffic islands, removable signs and light poles, and widened intersections. We are very satisfied with the quality of the tanks, and overall the transport stayed on schedule and was highly successful,” says FERU project manager Marja Aartovaara.

Uusi kansainvälisen hitsausneuvojan (IWS) -koulutuskurssi starttasi Meyer Turun Laivanrakennusoppilaitoksella huhtikuussa 20 uuden oppilaan voimin. ⚓

IWS-koulutus antaa syvällistä osaamista hitsausprosesseista, materiaaleista ja laadunvarmistuksesta sekä valmiudet toimia hitsauskoordinoijana esimerkiksi pätevöintien, hitsausohjeiden ja laadunvalvonnan parissa. 🚢

Kokonaisuus on pääosin teoriapainotteinen, m***a mukana on myös käytännön harjoittelua hitsauksessa ja polttoleikkauksessa, joka tukee osaamisen soveltamista omissa työtehtävissä. ⚙️

A stateroom’s carbon footprint is a notable part of shipbuilding emissions, and the impact multiplies when a single vessel contains thousands of cabins. 🚢

In the joint Sustainable Stateroom project, Meyer Turku and Piikkio Works Oy set out to find a practical solution to this challenge. Designing the new concept meant balancing responsible choices, guest comfort and smooth production at the facilities of Piikkio Works. ⚓

The outcome is a model stateroom and a model area that combine new materials with structural solutions developed through R&D. ⚙️
