iGEM Bordeaux

iGEM Bordeaux We are the iGEM (international Genetically Engineered Machine competition) team of Bordeaux. Follow us in our journey in the incredible world of SynBio!

The iGEM competition is a worldwide synthetic biology competition organized by the prestigious MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston) that offers the possibility for undergraduate students from all around the world to imagine and create their own project of synthetic biology. The iGEM Bordeaux team is composed of university and engineering school students in biology, biotechnology and

bioinformatics. For this project, they are supervised by Denis DUPUY, biologist. Last year's project Elasticoli was centered around the production of different bioelastic materials! This year, for the 2015 edition, we decided to find an alternative to the highly chemical grapevine treatment: "la bouillie bordelaise" to prevent mildew. Our project CUREDVINE is to produce Curdlan, a biological molecule which stimulates the grapevine's immunitary system!

With one week late (yes!) … the Giant Jamboree was fun!! Congratulations to all the IGEM teams who attended the ceremony. And of course congratulations to all of those who won a medal last Sunday it is nice to see their hard work paying. Bordeaux did not bring back any prize this year, but we were happy to conduct our project until the end. Boston was the opportunity to assist to numerous of very interesting presentations, to meet more friends and perhaps even future workmates. From all the IGEM Bordeaux team, thank you to everyone we interacted with us over there, and to everyone who supported us. We will come back soon, so stay in touch :)

Giant Jamboree Day 2! Come to see us at our poster, zone 5 #277, from 6.45pm to 8.15pm

Catch up our human FDCA inside the convention centre for a buzzing prize 😊

We arrived in Boston yesterday night! We had a short sleep... but we are now ready to go for the Giant Jamboree Day 1!

Last straight line for the wiki!
The wiki is the website documenting everything that has been done to conduct our project. We have 2 more days to finish to write the wiki and this deadline represents a big stressfull time for all igemers so good luck to everyone!
Have a look at it from http://2018.igem.org/Team:Bordeaux

Last week IGEM Bordeaux went to visit some young little faces.
We had one afternoon to stir their natural curiosity about sciences. To start we made them to put words to define concepts such as Life and Biology. From this we introduced them to the concept of DNA and why the cells are the "bricks" of our body. Next, they successfully extracted banana DNA by themselves. We finished with a color game based on nucleotides and all the different combinations impacting the way we look. We received a lot of questions showing their interest, and they even asked us to come back!

Last call to fill our mini quizz!

Just for a reminder, the quizz is open to all. We will be using the collected answers for our Human practice work only. If you are curious to established what you know, or might not know, about forests..it is your time now!

This survey is proposed by the 2018 Bordeaux IGEM team. Its aim is to have a first idea of how people are familiarized with forest worldwide. Each question has a unique good answer. No matter if you are wrong. If you want to know more about our project concerning a specific forest, we will present a...

It's back in class these days in Bordeaux! It was also back in the lab after a summer break. Last straight line for our experiments! IGEM Toulouse brought us a sample of cellulose which will serve us later ;) So thanks to them! It was also the ocassion to spend the weekend together and have some fun!

Yesterday we said goodbye to our friends from Groningen. IGEM Groningen 2018 came last friday to visit us in Bordeaux. They brought us their knowledge in chemistry when we exchanged about our human practices. It turned out te be an amazing meeting with a lot of fun! See you in Boston friends!
