The Helmet of the EUROSUIT in zero-gravity flight campaign
The helmet of the suit, developed for CNES by a consortium led by SPARTAN SPACE together with Decathlon France and , has returned from a zero-gravity flight campaign conducted aboard a aircraft, made possible thanks to the team, which is responsible for the VESPA 2 experiment.
This test was part of the VESPA 2 experiment, conducted by a team of physicians and intensive-care specialists from the University of Lorraine and the CHR Metz-Thionville, working on non-invasive ventilation techniques in weightlessness. This was their second zero-gravity flight campaign, during which they tested new techniques on healthy volunteers, as well as equipment that could be used for future space exploration missions. The experiment relied on cutting-edge medical technology, including Hamilton EM7 ventilators and impedance-based assessment using Löwenstein equipment.
A collaboration between Spartan Space and the VESPA team, with the support of , made it possible to test this technique directly with the EUROSUIT helmet under zero-gravity conditions. The objective was in particular to study ventilation and airflow inside the helmet under conditions similar to those encountered in space. The test also represents an important step towards the integration of medical capabilities into the EUROSUIT, opening the way for future applications such as medical respiratory support directly integrated into the suit.
These tests complement the various validation already carried out on the ground. They also complement the ergonomic tests conducted aboard the ISS as part of astronaut Sophie Adenot’s mission, which make it possible to test the system under actual space conditions.
