Most unusual welding applications are always worth exploring! For a highly technical component subject to heavy stress (OD 48mm x 6mm thickness + fitting 3/8" - both 316L 1.4404 stainless steel) our German colleagues have used a powerful orbital TIG power source (P6 model – up to 300A!) with oscillating wire together with a precision tiltable turntable and a 1G torch position.

More than just a welding test, this application highlights the versatility of our equipment and the technical expertise of our teams in exploring demanding welding configurations.

𝗣𝗢𝗟𝗬𝗦𝗢𝗨𝗗𝗘 × 𝗣𝗥𝗢𝗧𝗘𝗠 | 𝗔 𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗟𝗔𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗙𝗢𝗥 𝗖𝗨𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗠 𝗦𝗢𝗟𝗨𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡𝗦

With over 50 years’ experience in on-site and workshop machining solutions, Protem specialises in the design and manufacture of portable machining equipment and supports manufacturers in developing solutions tailored to all their applications.

It is with this in mind that our two companies have combined their expertise in co-design for a recent French project developed for a major player in the defence and shipbuilding sectors.

As part of this collaboration, Protem designed and manufactured the entire chassis as well as the carriage track, the true cornerstone of the project. Polysoude was thus able to integrate a narrow-joint TIG welding carriage fitted with our latest cameras to meet the project’s specific requirements.

This collaboration illustrates how our expertise complements each other in designing and producing bespoke welding and preparation solutions, tailored to the specific needs of each customer’s application.

In these photos, the teams from Protem and Polysoude are working hand in hand for the pre-acceptance of the first narrow-joint orbital welding machine.

From September 16 to 19, Polysoude joined GMT, at the Japan International Welding Show in Tokyo.

As Japan’s largest exhibition dedicated to welding, joining and cutting technologies, the show brings together industry professionals from around the world to discover the latest innovations, exchange expertise and explore new solutions for the future of manufacturing.

Throughout the event, our teams had the opportunity to meet with customers and industry professionals, discuss their welding challenges and present Polysoude’s expertise in mechanised and automated TIG welding.

Being alongside GMT at this major industry event is also an opportunity to strengthen our presence in the Japanese market and build on the strong relationships we have developed with our local partner and customers.

Last week, our teams at the Nantes site came together for our annual Safety Day : a whole day devoted to prevention and safety at work.

As a reminder, every day in France, more than 1,500 workplace accidents are recorded. And sometimes, it takes just 30 seconds to prevent one. So we got together in groups and participated in four fun immersive workshops !

• 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 - A road crash simulator to experience first-hand the importance of wearing a seatbelt

• 𝗥𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗛𝘂𝗻𝘁 - Spotting hazards in real-life situations and on technical diagrams

• 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻/𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 - A team quiz with buzzers to test your reflexes… and win prizes!

• 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘀 - Prism goggles to experience the effects of fatigue, alcohol and drugs on alertness

At Polysoude, everyone’s safety is a daily priority. Events like this provide a different, practical and interactive way to raise awareness of risks that are sometimes underestimated in everyday life.

Global demand is accelerating in our key markets: energy, nuclear, defence and high technology (data centres). To meet our customers’ growing needs, we are set to invest in a major extension to our long-established site, which opened in Nantes in 1988.

An additional 2,600 m² of floor space, with increased assembly height for the manufacture of our bespoke equipment, as well as an expansion of our workforce, will enable us to increase our production capacity in Nantes in the long term.

With this investment, as the world leader in mechanised TIG welding, we will be able to support the construction of the future EPR 2 power stations in France – a challenge that is both industrial and one of national sovereignty for the French energy sector.

Since 1961, our TIG welding equipment, designed and manufactured in Nantes, has been exported to more than 70 countries around the world. This expansion marks a new chapter in our development.
