Hello there ! 👋 We are pleased to introduce another historical sponsor of our team :

The Life Sciences and Health Graduate School (GS LSH) 🧬federates and coordinates the Masters programs, doctoral schools and research teams of the University of Paris-Saclay in the fields of Biology 🧫, Bioinformatics 💻 and Medicine 🩺, with the objective of understanding the fundamental mechanisms in Life Sciences and innovating in Biotechnology and Medicine. 👩‍🎓🧑‍🎓👨‍🎓

Its goal is to train students for jobs (Bac +5, Bac +8) that meet the scientific and societal challenges in Life Sciences, Health and Biotechnologies, and to enable synergies of the Research-Training-Innovation triptych in the Life Sciences.🔬

The GS LSH has an integrative vision of Life Sciences, from the understanding of the molecular mechanisms of biological systems and their interactions, to their integration at different scales, from the molecule to the cells, to the organism and to the populations, including evolutionary, physiopathological and biotechnological dimensions. Thus, the GS LSH brings together laboratories and training courses around :

- the study of fundamental mechanisms in models representative of the biodiversity of life;🧬
- the application of this knowledge in human and animal health, and in biotechnologies;🦠
- the development of data sciences and advanced technologies for the exploration, targeting (modulation, control) and engineering of life.⚙️

Hello, it’s time to introduce an historical sponsor 💰 of our iGEM GO Paris-Saclay Team: the I2BC. This institute partly finances our team, provides most of our coaches🧑🏻‍🔬👨🏼‍🔬 (researchers, teacher-researchers, PhD students) and finally welcomes us in the summer☀️ for our laboratory experiments.
The Institute of Integrative Cell Biology (I2BC) brings together many research teams (about 600 people) working on all aspects of the cell, from cellular constituents to the interaction of cells between them. The I2BC institute is divided into five research departments working on 4 strategic axes🔬🧫:
- The first department (B3S) relies on numerous techniques to study biological assemblies at different scales.
- The Cell Biology department uses numerous eukaryotic models to study the physiological functions of cells.
- The Genome Biology department focuses on the study of genetic material.
- The Microbiology department is interested in different organisms, such as Bacteria, Archaea and Viruses, both for their specificities and as models to study biological mechanisms.
- Finally, the Virology department studies host-virus interactions and the processes involved in viral infections.
The I2BC is a Joint 🤝 Research Unit supervised by the University of Paris-Saclay🟣🎓⚪, the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the Commissariat à l'Energie Atomique et aux Energies Alternatives (CEA)☢️⚛️. In addition, the unit hosts an Institut National de la Santé et de la Recherche Médicale (Inserm)💉🏥 labelled research team (ERL) and an Institut Nationale de la Recherche pour l‘Agriculture🚜, l’Alimentation🍖 et l’Environnement🏔️ (INRAe) team.

We are a little bit late bit still happy to share some pictures we took during the “Fête de la Science” at the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie in Paris in October. It was for us a great opportunity to do some Science Education, and to talk about Synthetic Biology with other Parisian iGEM Teams ! We hope that iGEM GO Paris-Saclay 2022 will do it again ! 😁

Meet our coaches ! We are very thankful for all the help they gave us during this year of hardwork.

Dr. Ombeline ROSSIER. She is an associate professor at the University Paris-Saclay where she teaches biochemistry, microbiology and, of course, synthetic biology. When she teaches, she loves to set students in an authentic situation and what could be more authentic than working together on a project that you design from scratch! She loves to see the energy and the intrinsic motivation of the team members, from 1st year Bachelor students to Master students.

Dr. Philippe BOULOC. He runs a laboratory at the Institute for Integrative Biology of the Cell (I2BC) on the campus of the University of Paris-Saclay. They study bacterial regulations with a focus on regulatory RNAs. For many years, he has had the pleasure of advising students to set up new iGEM projects, a fantastic way for them to learn biology and more.

Pr. Stéphanie BURY-MONE. She is co-supervisor of Master 2 in Microbiology on the campus of the University of Paris-Saclay, who is passionate about the dynamics of the microbial genomes that she studies at the institute for Integrative Biology of the Cell (I2BC). Like Philippe and Ombeline, for many years, she has had the pleasure of supervising the iGEMers. All the best!

Actually, we lied by telling we had finished with the presentations… So, here’s our LAST team member ! Detective E. coli is a responsible and serious detective who takes on the most difficult cases. His interests are to be useful and to be happy. He is ready to help at any time, and has bonds with two proteins in the laboratory.
Does your team has any mascot this year ?

Last but not least, meet Andrada, our last team member ! ☺️

Hi! I have recently graduated in Applied Mathematics, and I am interested into using it to respond to biological questions. I like the elegance of Mathematics, and at the same time I'm fascinated about the working of the human body, so I'm happy I can apply my two passions through this iGEM project.

Finally iGEM Team Lund 🇸🇪 made it to Paris ! 🇫🇷We could meet the rest of our partners during the Jamboree ! iGEM is not only about being in the lab, but it is also a whole adventure : you meet new people from different parts of the World ! Both our universities are members of eugloh - European University Alliance for Global Health 🇪🇺. This sponsor let us get closer despite the distance, and to exchange about our different cultures, formations…

PS : Congrats Partners ! 🎉

We are proud to announce that we won a GOLD MEDAL 🏅 and we are recipients of the SPECIAL AWARD for Best Inclusivity ! 😍🎉
We are truly happy that our project respond to all the Gold Medal Criterias. It means that we succeed to make a whole good project by working so hard during this year ! All of our team members can be proud of them ! 🤩
We worked this whole year on a new diagnosis for Endometriosis and we hope that patients can identify themselves in our project🎗

Inclusion is an aspect that is really important for our team. This is why it can be seen in our Wiki (accessible on Mobile 📱and Computer 💻, accessible for blind 🦯and colorblind people, accessible for people with mobility problems 🧑‍🦼, Voice Assistance 🗣, International Inclusivity 🇺🇸🇫🇷🇷🇺…) and in our video game 🎮. Also, we managed to see the aspect of LGBTQIA+ people and Endometriosis. 🏳️‍🌈
A big thank you to our coaches for their support, to all the people who supported us AND ABOVE ALL a big congratulations to all the 352 other teams ! 👏❤️

A Special mention for our Partners for this year : iGEM Team Lund ! We really enjoyed our partnership with your team ! 😍
