Renewing Bird Detection Systems at Lévigny Wind Farm 🌿

At CGN Europe Energy, renewing our bird detection systems (BDS) is an opportunity to upgrade our equipment and explore the range of available technologies.

At Lévigny Wind Farm, the previous system was replaced with SafeWind, developed by Biodiv-Wind, following the cessation of operations of our former supplier.

Using cameras and AI-powered image analysis, this solution ensures the continuity of our bird detection capabilities.

This replacement is also part of our broader approach to technological diversification. Working with different suppliers allows us to explore different technologies, compare solutions and better address the specific needs of our wind farms.

Step by step, CGNEE is strengthening its in-house maintenance capabilities and developing an increasingly autonomous, responsive and efficient Site Support team.

With the arrival of two wind turbine maintenance technicians, our Site Support team is further strengthening its skills and ability to carry out interventions directly on site.

Recent interventions across our French wind farms demonstrate this progress in action. From remote diagnostics and fault troubleshooting to component replacement, the team is progressively taking on more maintenance activities in-house. During the latest intervention, replacing a defective main power circuit breaker enabled a turbine to be returned to service promptly.

With every intervention, we gain experience, strengthen our expertise and take another step towards increasingly autonomous and efficient maintenance operations.

The role of our France Operations Control Centre (OCC) has evolved. Traditionally focused on monitoring wind farms and supporting their day-to-day operation, the team now plays a more active role in managing production in response to electricity market signals.

The Balancing Mechanism plays an important role in maintaining the balance between electricity supply and demand. As electricity must be balanced in real time, the French electricity system operator can request adjustments to generation when needed. When supply exceeds demand, reducing generation can help restore this balance and maintain the stability of the electricity system.

For our wind farms, this means that production can be temporarily curtailed when requested through the mechanism. Beyond responding to wind conditions and equipment availability, our assets can therefore contribute to the flexibility needed to balance the grid.

Implementing these instructions requires close coordination between the OCC, market teams and technical specialists. The OCC translates market instructions into operational actions, monitors their implementation and ensures that production resumes at the appropriate time, in accordance with the applicable instructions and operating constraints.

As the mechanism gradually extends to more of our wind farms, the OCC has become an increasingly important link between electricity markets and our renewable energy assets.

By translating market signals into operational action, our teams contribute to electricity grid balancing while supporting the operational and economic performance of our wind farms.

In the day-to-day operation of a wind farm, grounds maintenance may seem like a secondary activity. However, it plays a practical role in keeping sites accessible, safe and operational.

Around turbines and other equipment, managing vegetation helps keep access routes clear, facilitate maintenance activities and ensure suitable and safe working conditions for our teams.

At CGNEE, some of these activities are now carried out in-house. This allows us to be more autonomous and responsive to everyday needs on site, while making maintenance activities more flexible and closely aligned with the realities on the ground.

A practical approach that contributes to keeping our wind farms accessible, safe and functional, while making better use of the resources available on our sites.

The smooth operation of a wind farm also depends on paying attention to the very practical needs on the ground.

Recently, at our Estinnes wind farm in Belgium, our teams carried out a coordinated waste collection and maintenance operation across several areas of the site.

The work involved removing waste and soil, cleaning the areas concerned, and installing barriers to secure access to the wind turbines.

Rather than carrying out several separate interventions, the teams brought together multiple needs as part of a single mobilisation. By making use of the internal resources available, they were able to optimise the time spent on site and take the opportunity to carry out additional maintenance work nearby.

Good organisation helps us make better use of available resources, reduce repeated interventions and improve day-to-day efficiency. This is a simple but concrete example of how our teams are progressively strengthening their in-house capabilities and contributing to the safe and efficient operation of our assets.

Maintenance work at Assac!

In September, the SGRE teams carried out repair work on the spoilers installed on several turbine blades at the Assac wind farm.

But what exactly are these small components attached to the blades, and what do they do?

Spoilers are aerodynamic devices designed to help control airflow around the blade. By locally influencing the airflow, they contribute to optimising the blade’s aerodynamic behaviour and maintaining the turbine’s performance.

Repairing these components therefore helps ensure the continued proper operation of the equipment and contributes to optimising the wind farm’s renewable energy production.

Carried out in accordance with the site’s safety requirements, this type of intervention requires precision and expertise, allowing the teams to work directly on the blades under safe and suitable conditions.

A targeted maintenance operation that contributes to the long-term performance and reliability of our wind assets.

Looking back at one of our September interventions!

The Skywork teams carried out work at the La Source de la Sensée wind farm to install Vortex Generators on the turbine blades, with the intervention coordinated by our CGNEE Technical Support team.

Working directly on the blades requires both precision and careful attention to safety. Using a suspended platform, the technicians were able to access the work areas and carry out the installation safely and accurately.

Vortex Generators help improve the aerodynamic performance of the blades, contributing to the wind farm’s renewable energy production.

This intervention is part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the performance of our wind farms and maximise the value of our assets.

🌍 On 16 September in Paris, CGN Europe Energy (CGNEE), in partnership with the China Chamber of Commerce in France (CCIFC), organised the launch conference for the second edition of the Sustainability Report of Chinese Companies in France.

Held at the Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, the event brought together more than 150 participants from institutional, business and academic circles to discuss sustainable development, corporate responsibility and France-China cooperation.

The morning featured speeches from several distinguished guests: Mr Wang D**g, Minister for Economic and Commercial Affairs at the Embassy of China in France; Mr Xiao Lijun, President of the CCIFC and General Manager of Bank of China Paris; Mr Vincent Louault, Vice-President of the France-China Friendship Group; Ms Myriam Vigroux, Mayor of Assac in the Tarn department, home to CGNEE wind farms; Ms Sybille Dubois-Fontaine, Secretary General of the France-China Committee; and Mr Huang Chao, Deputy Director of Public Affairs at CGN.

Published in French, English and Chinese, this year's report brings together contributions from 12 Chinese companies operating in France, sharing their experiences in ecological transition, local integration, social responsibility and cultural cooperation.

The conference continued with a roundtable on green development, bringing together representatives from political, business and academic circles: Mr Sacha HOULIE, Member of the French National Assembly; Mr LI Wenguo, Secretary General of the CCIFC; Mr LIU Haiping, General Manager of China Eastern Airlines Co., Ltd. Europe; Mr HE Jiang, General Manager of PetroChina International (London) Co., Ltd.; Mr Christophe PHILIPP, former Director of EDF's Nuclear Activities in China; Mr Benjamin DENJEAN, French marine biologist and President of Paysan Marin; Ms Audrey LEANDRI, Deputy General Manager of SINOMA CBMI ENGINEERING S.A.S.; and Mr Jérôme DION, Head of Global Risk Management at Bank of China Paris.

The discussion provided an opportunity to explore the challenges of green development and the various initiatives undertaken by Chinese companies in France, before concluding with a cultural performance of Qinqiang opera from Shaanxi.

Beyond the publication of the report, this initiative highlights the importance of dialogue, cooperation and the sharing of experience between Chinese companies operating in France and their French partners.

Every summer, our Assac wind farm opens its doors to welcome local residents, neighbors and visitors for a behind-the-scenes look at renewable energy in action.

This year's Summer Open Day was once again a great success, bringing together curious visitors for an afternoon of exchanges, discoveries and discussions about wind energy, biodiversity and the role renewable energy plays in the energy transition.

A special thank you to Tatiana, Abdellah and Cheick, who led this year's presentations with enthusiasm and professionalism. By sharing their expertise and answering visitors' questions, they helped make complex topics accessible while showcasing the people behind our projects.
