Determining the Required Coating Thickness
The thickness here depends on the extent of corrosion (gap or void) in the bearing or oil seal area:
Minor Corrosion: If the corrosion is slight, a thickness of 50 to 150 microns (0.05 to 0.15 mm) is applied.
Deep Corrosion (Rebuilding): A thickness of 250 to 500 microns (0.25 to 0.50 mm) is applied.
Note: For engineering purposes, it is preferable not to exceed 0.50 mm of chrome plating on one side of shafts subjected to high torsion or vibration to maintain shaft flexibility and prevent chrome flaking.
